BOULDER, Co. – Farms across the country have been struggling to stay operating with the pandemic. One in particular was forced to lay off all of its workers, but with some creativity, the owner was able to hire his whole staff back on. He said his company’s recovery started when he threw his business plan out the window and reinvented the farm’s revenue strategy. In that process, owner of 405

Dr. Scott Turner does his best to treat patients with memory disorders such as dementia. While there are treatments that may temporarily help, there's no cure for dementia, which is why a new study is getting a lot of attention. The study found your daily dose of certain medications could be increasing your risk for developing dementia. “It's a pretty substantial risk and just brings to bear the thought these medications should not be used lightly,” Dr. Turner with Georgetown University Medical Center, says. The study--published in the Journal of the American Medical Association--found the risk of getting dementia increased nearly 50 percent for patients who took medication every day for at least three years to treat some of the most common conditions in older adults, including bladder control, Parkinson’s, depression and epilepsy. “This study's important because dementia is very common in older individuals, and these classes of medications are also commonly prescribed,” Dr. Turner expresses. “So, I think there will be a lot of discussions between patients and their doctors about the risks and benefits of these medications.” The study warns people not to stop taking any medication without speaking with their doctor. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. 1363

As the New England Patriots prepared to take the field for the AFC title game, police say the team’s owner Robert Kraft was at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida, soliciting a sex worker, according to new details released in the investigation.Kraft denies any illegal activity. The case has received widespread attention once authorities revealed Kraft’s involvement in the investigation. However, the case stretches far beyond the billionaire and South Florida. "I think it's very safe to say without any hyperbole that this is the tip of the tip of the iceberg,” said Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. So far, 25 people have been charged with solicitation, and police believe hundreds of others could be arrested. In just three months, the investigation has already uncovered a multi-million dollar international scheme that stretches from China to New York City and Palm Beach, Florida. "It's about time the country has a real conversation about human trafficking, which is modern day slavery in our midst,” said Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, in a recent presser. “This is not about lonely old men or victimless crimes.” Amanda Finger, the executive director of the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking, says unfortunately, this isn't the only type of trafficking they've seen. “You also see cases that involve tourism industry that involve people in the western slope, who are forced into farm work ranchers,” Finger says. Many organizations consider human trafficking the world's fastest growing crime. The most common form is sex trafficking, and the industry pulls in an estimated billion each year. According to the United Nations, most of the victims are women and girls. Finger says any community can be impacted, so she helps people and organizations recognize red flags, like poor living conditions and ways people spend money. “If they ever talk about needing to give it back to someone else, someone else is controlling their money, someone else is controlling their documentation and they don't have their ID on them,” Finger says of signs someone may be a victim. Humans rights groups hope the arrest of Kraft will bring more awareness to this pervasive problem. 2263

As the holiday season approaches, organizers for the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration said this year’s festivities will be “virtually enhanced” and very different. This year, the celebration will bring Times Square and The Ball to the audience digitally, no matter where they are.A scaled back and socially distanced live production is still being determined."People all over the globe are ready to join New Yorkers in welcoming in the new year with the iconic Ball Drop. I commend the Times Square Alliance, Jamestown Properties, and Countdown Entertainment on finding a safe, creative and innovative way for all of us to continue to celebrate this century old-tradition. A new year means a fresh start, and we’re excited to celebrate,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.“One thing that will never change is the ticking of time and the arrival of a New Year at midnight on December 31st,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance, which co-produces the event with Countdown Entertainment.“Because any opportunity to be live in Times Square will be pre-determined and extremely limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be the opportunity to participate virtually wherever you are. Because more than ever in these divided and fear-filled times, the world desperately needs to come together symbolically and virtually to celebrate the people and things we love and to look forward with a sense of renewal and new beginnings,” Tompkins added.Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many events have been canceled or modified to fight the spread of the virus. The New Year’s Eve Times Square ball drop, which typically brings millions of people together in Manhattan, is no different.Earlier this month, the mayor and Macy's announced the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade will be "reinvented" with virtual aspects. The Macy's Fourth of July fireworks were also modified into smaller fireworks displayed before a grand show was aired on television.
