CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will not compromise on issues of principle at the ongoing UN climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, the country's chief negotiator said on Saturday.Su Wei, the chief Chinese negotiator and head of the climate change department of China's National Development and Reform Commission, made the remarks in response to some parties' call for "compromise to make achievements.""All the parties want to reach substantial achievements at the Cancun conference, which can lay a solid foundation for the completion of 'Bali Roadmap' negotiations," Su told Xinhua in an exclusive interview."I think we can cooperate with other parties and even make compromises on some non-principle issues, but we will not compromise on the issues of principle, such as the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, which is the basis for a package of agreements to be made in Cancun," Su said.The negotiator stressed that the developing countries have reached consensus on the principle issues. "We are keeping solidarity and trying to play a constructive role," he added.Su said some country's opposition to the Kyoto Protocol is no good news to the developing countries, and has exerted negative influence on the conference.Negotiators at the Cancun conference are trying to establish a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol, which obliges rich nations except the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5.2 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012."At the end of the first week of the Cancun conference, there are some progresses in adaptation, finance, technology and mitigation for the developing countries, but it is hard to say if the progresses are final ones," Su observed.As for the rumors about a secret Mexican text, Su said that the president of COP16 has told the delegations from every country including China that Mexico will not put forward a secret text."As I know, Mexico, the host country of COP16, is always pursuing the principles of 'open, transparent and widening participation' for the climate negotiations this year. I believe Mexico will continue to keep the principles to try to get the results of balance at the Cancun Conference," he said.Su noted that the ministers will arrive in Cancun in the second week of the conference. He hopes the ministers can play an active role in promoting the progress of the conference.A 70-strong-member delegation of the Chinese government, headed by Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, is cooperating with other parties to seek a solution to global warming in Cancun.The Cancun talks, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 10, are aimed at finding solutions to global climate change. BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China rose for the 15th consecutive month in October, indicating China remains a favored investment destination for foreign businesses.Inbound FDI increased 7.86 percent year on year in October to 7.663 billion U.S. dollars, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Tuesday.The October figure means inbound FDI for the first 10 months of the year totaled 82.003 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 15.71 percent.MOC spokesman Yao Jian said at a press conference China remains a hot spot for foreign investors.Foreign businesses have begun to shift their investments from export-orientated sectors to domestic market-orientated businesses because of China's improved legal system and its expanding market, he said.In the first 10 months of the year, the manufacturing sector received 47.59 percent of FDI inflows while the services industry got 45 percent.A total of 21,181 foreign-invested enterprises were approved for establishment during the 10-month period, up 16.62 percent from a year earlier.In September inbound FDI grew 6.14 percent year on year.The acceleration in the rate of inbound FDI growth was due to the U.S.'s second round of quantitative easing, some analysts explained.Yao denied the link but said the Chinese government is keeping an eye on liquidity.

WUHAN, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- Russia and India Monday reiterated their readiness to coordinate with China as it prepares for the third BRIC Summit and related events in 2011.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna made the statements when they met with Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, on Monday.The ministers expressed their determination to work toward strengthening cooperation within the BRIC group, which was acquiring growing importance.During the meeting, Yang said the three countries could cooperate more in safeguarding security in the Asia-Pacific region.Yang said they should insist on common security, resolve disputes in a peaceful way and work together on non-traditional threats to make further efforts on regional security cooperation.The foreign ministers agreed to push forward trilateral practical cooperation and decided the next trilateral foreign ministers' meeting would be held in Russia in 2011."BRIC" is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China.In recent years, the four nations have strengthened dialogue and cooperation, and held frequent exchanges of views on major issues in the international economic and development fields.During the second BRIC Summit in Brazil this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced the next BRIC Summit would be held in China in 2011.

BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- China has made steady progress in containing the spread of illegal publications and cracking down on the dissemination of lewd content through the Internet and mobile phones in 2010, according to the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.The office has recently disclosed the following facts and figures about the related efforts China has made so far this year:-- Around 44.37 million copies of illegal publications, including 981,000 copies of lewd content, 37.35 million pirated copies, some 3.93 million illegal copies of newspapers and magazines, among others, have been confiscated across China.-- More than 16,000 cases, including over 10,000 ones of pirated publications, 1,669 cases involving pornography, and 371 cases involving fake journalists, news reports or media outlets, have been uncovered this year.-- China has shut down more than 60,000 porn websites since launching a crackdown in December 2009.-- Law enforcers across China during a campaign launched in April had destroyed a total of 36.39 million copies of pirated or illegal publications, audio and video discs.-- The office has received over 170,000 tip-offs, mostly about the online or cellphone-based spreading of porn content this year and 534 people have been rewarded 544,000 yuan (81,964 dollars) for the information provided.-- Authorities in Zhongshan City of southern Guangdong Province shut down a huge disc-producing outfit with five production lines and confiscated 3.87 million illegal discs.
