Now, there are questions about how accurate COVID-19 tests are in kids.One recent study done by several laboratories and hospitals in Massachusetts looked at the BinaxNOW rapid test.The test had a high accuracy rate in adults, but when it came to symptomatic patients 18 and under, the accuracy rate was just under 78%. The rate decreased in asymptomatic children.Another paper, published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection, found the Panbio rapid test had a lower accuracy rate in children. It was only able to identify 62% of COVID-19 cases in patients under 16 years old.Doctors have differing opinions on why accuracy rates may be different in children.One doctor tells Yahoo News that children's immune systems are just better at zeroing in on diseases and making them harder to detect.A pediatric doctor we spoke with says she hasn't seen a difference in accuracy rates. If anything, symptoms may be different.“Sometimes the way that the disease processes or goes about in these children can change. It can change with obesity rates and things like that, but we have had it be successful with infants age as well as on up,” said Laura-Anne Cleveland with the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.There may also be some variation in the way the test is performed. The cotton swab is the same size for both adults and children, which means it could be more uncomfortable for kids.“Kids move around. If you have a little kid that you're trying to hold down, they're going to move around, and sometimes, we don't want to cause pain or cause tears, but you do have to get in that nose, do a couple turns, and be able to get a good sample,” said Cleveland.When children are tested, doctors say it may actually be a bad sign if they are comfortable during the test, because it may not produce an accurate result. (AP) — A man suspected of gunning down a liquor store owner near Los Angeles leaned out a car window during a chase and blasted away with a handgun before being dragged wounded from the car Friday.There was no word on his condition as he was taken away in an ambulance.He is believed to be the gunman who walked into a Downey liquor store on Tuesday night and shot down Gurpreet Singh, 44, of Cerritos, Sgt. Mark Haxton said.Police have said nothing was taken from the store and there was no immediate word on a motive for the attack.On Friday afternoon, police and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies began chasing a black Toyota Prius in Downey, southeast of Los Angeles.The high-speed chase stretched along a freeway and surface streets, during which video showed a passenger in a black T-shirt lean halfway out of the front passenger's window and fire two-handed at pursuing patrol cars.Video showed the man using a distinctive long-barreled revolver strikingly similar to one that was used in the store killing.The chase ended at about 3 p.m. in neighboring Vernon when traffic trapped the car and the passenger again fired. A car behind the Prius managed to back away, and police who pulled up in the next lane riddled the Prius with gunfire, shattering windows.A short time later, a bloodied woman driver got out and surrendered. There was no immediate word on her condition.The street near a railroad track was emptied, and sheriff's SWAT teams were called in. Two armored vehicles blocked in the Prius.During a standoff that lasted more than an hour, authorities rolled a robot up to the open driver's door to peer inside the car and later fired two flash-bang grenades into the vehicle.When the man inside didn't get out, a police dog was sent in to pull at him. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) - An East San Diego County man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of poisoning his wife with Thallium.The woman was taken to a hospital on March 15 with an unknown illness. Deputies said the woman had a level of Thallium in her system that was so high, medical staff believed her exposure was intentional.Thallium is a heavy metal which has been used in rat poison and ant pesticides.Sheriff’s detectives, along with the FBI, NCIS, and San Diego County HazMat, conducted an investigation and believed the woman’s husband was responsible for her poisoning.Race Remington Uto, 27, was booked into Vista Detention Facility. EL CAJON, Calif (KGTV) -- A 26-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow Ramona resident during a fight at a gas station in their East County hometown pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a murder charge and was ordered held on million bail.    Jarrett Austin Wishnick is suspected of mortally wounding Steven Faught, 59, shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday near a set of fuel pumps in front of Stage Stop Liquors at 578 Main St.    Deputies responding to a report of an assault at the business found Faught bleeding profusely from a wound to his neck, sheriff's Lt. Greg Rylaarsdam said.    Paramedics airlifted the victim to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. Wishnick -- who remained at the scene of the deadly fight -- was treated for a hand injury before being booked into jail.    It was unclear what prompted the dispute between the men, both of whom had parked their vehicles in front of the gasoline pumps outside the store.    Faught's older brother, Jerry, flew to San Diego from Portland after the incident. He told 10News that his brother had a warm personality.  "Even though he had  very little, he'd give you the clothes off his back."    Wishnick will be back in court Nov. 20 for a bail review and on Jan. 16 for a readiness conference. A Feb. 1 preliminary hearing date was also scheduled.Wishnick faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted of murder and the use of a knife. 1490
