SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego biotech is developing a device that could change how people get routine blood tests.Truvian, which moved into its new UTC area headquarters Thursday, is developing a product that could deliver 40 routine results within 20 minutes, requiring just five drops of blood. The company's chief executive says it should cost less than . "We're going to give you those results in 20 minutes, and it will cost you or your insurance a fraction of what you're paying today," said Jeff Hawkins, CEO of Truvian. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A program dedicated to giving high school girls in under-served areas skills to help get good part-time jobs is being given a ,000 grant from The San Diego Foundation."These students are going to be able to experience real world, hands-on training in highly technical fields," said Katie Rast from The San Diego Foundation.Called "Girls Take Flight", 20 students from schools in Southeast San Diego are spending their spring break in a classroom partaking in a "drone camp".The girls are learning how to build, fly, repair, and code drones. The hope is that those skills will help them get the part-time jobs that they'll likely need to pay for college.In addition, about half of the students will be awarded internships with the Elementary Institute of Science, which is administering the program.Those internships will include tours and introductions to potential mentors from prestigious San Diego-based tech companies, including Qualcomm, Northrop Grumman, and General Atomics.10News spoke with students who say opportunities such as this one are hard to find in communities such as theirs, leading to their dedication to take advantage."I know my parents did so much to bring me here," said Sundus Mohamed, a Crawford High student and daughter of Somali immigrants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man found with gunshot injuries inside a car on a Mountain View street died after being taken to the hospital, San Diego police said.At around 11:50 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 1100 block of S. 45th Street in response to a report of shots fired.When officer arrived at the scene, they found a man unresponsive inside a vehicle. The man had “apparent trauma to his upper body,” according to police.The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego law student is making parking less expensive downtown. The city approved to lower rates and extend parking hours along Third Avenue and Cedar Street on Thursday. It's no secret downtown parking is tough. "Sometimes it’s just hard to find one," said Oday Yousif. "That’s the problem. It’s never guaranteed."For students at Cal Western Law School, it's not any easier. "8 o'clock in the morning, that’s when the meters start running. That’s when most classes start; they’re already full," said Yousif. There are 26 metered spots on Third Avenue and Cedar Street right next to the school. "My bank statement is just filed 'City of San Diego parking'. .25 an hour for a max of two hours. So, after those two hours, you have to move your car or you’ll get a ticket," said Yousif.He got three tickets in one year. "They’re about 60 to 70 dollars, and then there’s a fee. I've appealed every single one I've got."Yousif wrote an email to the city to try to fix the situation. He worked on a resolution with the Downtown Parking Management Group for ten months. They proposed lowering the rate to 50 cents per hour for up to four hours of parking. "Giving us 50 cents an hour is not only beneficial to help students, but doing it at four hours is the perfect combination to help students who are just trying to have an ideal parking scenario," said Yousif. That proposal was approved unanimously by the City Transportation Engineering Division on Thursday.
