BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here Friday that members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) should better comprehend the Scientific Outlook on Development and use it to guide their work.     Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for intensified efforts of CPC members to study the gist of the recently concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee and incorporate the requirements of Scientific Outlook on Development into daily work and life.     Xi made the remarks at a meeting on further studying and implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development.     The Scientific Outlook on Development stresses people-oriented, comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable economic and social development.     The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, which concluded on Sept. 18, decided to expand democracy within the Party and further fight corruption.

ADELAIDE, Australia, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Funi arrived at Australia's Adelaide airport on a chartered jumbo jet from China on Saturday. The pandas were welcomed at their new digs in the Adelaide Zoo after arriving in a climate-controlled semi-trailer escorted by police.     They will spend the next 30 days in quarantine in their specially built enclosure at the Zoo before going to the public on Dec. 13.     The CEO of Adelaide Zoo Dr. Chris West and the Cultural Councilor of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Australia Ke Yasha with a crowd of about 100 local people greeted them at the Airport.     Ke said, "Nearly 400 Chinese people welcomed the arrival of the Giant Pandas in Chinatown despite the poor weather." BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday underlined in a joint statement their commitment to the eventual realization of a world free of nuclear weapons.    They also reiterated their opposition to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the statement issued after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides will jointly uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and agreed to enhance non-proliferation cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and equality, the statement said.     They promised to work together for a successful Review Conference of Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 2010, and committed to pursue ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) as soon as possible.     The joint statement said the two countries stand ready to strengthen communication and cooperation in nuclear safety and security and in combating nuclear terrorism.     China attaches importance to the U.S. initiative to hold a nuclear security summit in April 2010 and will actively participate in the preparations for the summit, according to the joint statement.

LANGFANG, Hebei Province, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Friday urged Party committees and governments at all levels to make issues related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers top priority of their agenda and called for increased investment in these areas.     During a visit to villages in China's northern Hebei Province Friday, Hu called for efforts to develop modern agriculture by relying on the progress of science and technology and make sure that farmers have increasing incomes.     The president said this year's No. 1 document of the CPC Central Committee will include a batch of new policies to support agricultural development.     Hu spent time inquiring about the livelihood of local farmers and conveyed New Year greetings to them.
