The section affected would be from Broadway down to L Street, where the Convention Center is located. The change could help during big events like the week of Comic-Con and holidays like Halloween. “It’s kinda mayhem,” says Michael Carbone, director of the Chuck Jones Gallery. “As far as trying to get from one block to the other, it could take you 15 minutes.” Carbone says while he loves the crowds during Comic Con, the rent is so high downtown, his gallery is moving to Little Italy.Some suggestions under consideration, according to the GQA: putting in street furniture, plants, local art sculptures or murals and entertainment venues. “Well, the safety factor is you can just stroll, you don't need to look out for cars, and we don't allow bicycles either,” said Sue Meek, a tourist from Scotland who says similar areas function well back home. The Gaslamp Promenade project could allow certain hours for vehicle traffic, such as 3 a.m. - 11 a.m. The projected cost is currently million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man suspected of driving into and setting fire to a Raytheon building in San Diego last month appeared in court Wednesday. Daniel Hector Mackinnon, 36, pleaded not guilty at his Wednesday arraignment. Mackinnon was charged with two counts of malicious destruction of a building by means of fire in late April. According to authorities, on April 24, an explosion occurred at the Raytheon building on the 8600 block of Balboa Avenue. RELATED: Man accused of slamming into Raytheon building federally chargedA complaint filed in federal court says surveillance video shows a Toyota Prius drive into the side of the building before a man can be seen in the back of the car. Authorities say the man then opened the back hatch when a fireball shot from the side of the vehicle and the man fled. According to the complaint, two empty magazine cartridges and remnants of a melted gas container were found inside the car. The Prius also had two different stolen California license plates. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The nation's first kitten nursery, established in San Diego, is celebrating its tenth season running.San Diego Humane Society's kitten nursery has cared for more than 10,000 underage, orphaned, and otherwise kittens in need around-the-clock for the last decade, according to the Society.Currently, the nursery has more than 100 orphaned kittens."We are in kitten season," Jackie Noble, with the Humane Society, said. "We usually get two big peaks ... usually goes with the weather. As the weather gets warmer, more kittens are born and that's when we see the majority of our kittens come through the doors."And as Mother's Day nears, prospective owners are searching for lovable kittens to call their own."Yes everyone wants a kitten. We're getting a lot of people asking if they can adopt these babies." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating following a crash involving a military Humvee Thursday night.The crash happened on eastbound Interstate 8 just west of Dunbar Lane. Five vehicles were involved in the crash.As a result of the incident, traffic was backed up on the interstate for miles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Hillcrest Business Association is making some changes to the Pride kickoff party this year they hope will make the event more inclusive. According to Benjamin Nicholls, the association’s Executive Director, entry to the event won’t be limited to those 21 and up this year. “We just felt it was a little odd to say ‘oh under 21 you can’t come,’ so we took down the fences and made it all ages,” Benjamin said. On top of taking down the fence that normally surrounds the event, entry will also be donation based. “What we want to do is we want to take down the barriers to entry and that means physically taking down the fences and also charging nothing for folks to get in,” Nicholls added. Nicholls says he hopes the changes will get more people involved. Pride this year will be held on July 12, 13 and 14. 840
