SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Weeks after storms flooded University of California San Diego dorms, students are still reeling from the damage.UCSD officials said 41 students, from Thurgood Marshall and Revelle Colleges, were relocated after the flooding Nov. 20. By Dec. 6, they said 19 had moved back into their rooms.Students showed 10News their dorms that smelled of mold. Friday, a dorm in the Thurgood Marshall Lowers Apartments had a hole in the ceiling. Students said the hole was cut after water fell from the ceiling days after the Nov. 20 storm."I noticed something dropping and it's like starting to smell," a student said. "It started dropping from three holes in the ceiling ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - What looks like a fire zone on a busy Ocean Beach street is a fraud, the City of San Diego confirmed to 10News Wednesday. The red curb at Abbott Street and Santa Monica Avenue got the attention of neighbors. Diana Webster has lived in the community for 66 years and said people have been getting active with spray paint. “On Friday, five scooters were parked in there and on Saturday, somebody had painted black where all the scooters should be parked. Sounds like there is some suspicious activity with spray cans, I guess so,” Webster said. “I think it’s pretty crazy someone got away with it,” said a neighbor identified as Rodrigo. The city said illegal red curbing happens regularly in parking-dense areas and the best way to take care of it is to report it through their Get It Done app. If the paint looks different than a typical red curb, it’s likely illegal, the city said. 910

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two competing plans are on the table to redevelop the Tailgate Lot a block from Petco Park into a mixed-use area with park space, retail and office, and housing.The City of San Diego has launched a virtual open house for residents to provide feedback on two plans to develop the Tailgate Lot in a mixed-use area. Residents have through Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, to give their feedback.One of the plans was developed by Brookfield Properties and the other between the San Diego Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital. Both plans call for a combination of office, retail, and residential space and open park space and parking.Brookfield Properties' plan calls for about 1.2 million square feet of mixed-use office and retail space, about 1,200 residential units, and 1.1 acres of park and community space. The plan also highlights developing a tailgate park, "bazaar" marketplace, and a gateway to public transit.Brookfield's plan also includes a culinary incubator for restaurant startups and makers, including 15 restaurant spaces and a community kitchen.The plan by the Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital also features about 1.35 million square feet of office space, 612 market rate and affordable housing units, 236,000 square feet of open space, and 1,600-space parking garage for games and ballpark events.The parking garage would also include a multi-use field on the roof for recreational activities. The plan says that the spaces will be shared with tenants when not in use for games and events.The Tailgate Lot property includes 15 parcels of land, or about 5.25 net acres, between K Street and Imperial Avenue and 12th Ave. and 14th St. The parking is currently leased to the Padres.The city's plan is to submit an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement to City Council in October or November 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While many holiday events will go on this season despite the pandemic, one San Diego tradition is taking a break this year.The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights, scheduled for Dec. 13 and 20, has been canceled this year. Organizers said the decision was made due to the rise in coronavirus cases."We are sad to announce that due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, this year’s San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is cancelled," a statement on the parade's website read. "We are disappointed that the parade cannot take place this year but we would like to do our part to minimize the spread of the virus. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season. See you next year!"The parade, which was looking forward to its 49th year, routinely brings crowds of more than 100,000 San Diegans to the bay over two weekends to watch as nearly 100 boats sail through the bay, decked out in colorful lights and decorations."Our number one priority is safety and this year large crowds associated with the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights are not advisable due to the Covid-19 pandemic," said Parade Chairman Larry Baumann. "We know how much our residents and visitors love the parade and this was a very difficult decision.
