SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people escaped uninjured after a sailboat crashed into an Ocean Beach jetty, before the vessel itself was crushed by high surf. The 25-foot long boat collided into the North Channel jetty in Ocean Beach with the two individuals on board, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Mu?oz. San Diego Lifeguards used a personal water craft to reach the vessel and safely pull the two individuals after they were forced to jump from the boat. The boat was attempting to leave the jetty area when a large wave forced them to pull a U-turn. SAN DIEGO FORECAST: Wednesday's rains to strengthen heading into ThursdayWind caught the sails and instead sent the vessel back into the jetty, according to witnesses at the scene. Those two people were uninjured in the wreck though the sailboat was crushed by high surf and sunk within the channel's entrance, according to Mu?oz.The boat's owner is now responsible for making arrangements to tow the boat from the channel.RELATED: Where to get free sandbags to protect your home from floodingA storm system forecasted for San Diego County has brought high sets to local beaches Wednesday. High surf forced the Ocean Beach Pier to close and lifeguards to ask swimmers to stay out of the water, as waves could be seen crashing against the pier. 1329

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tuesday arrested a woman they say was trying to smuggle more than 230 pounds of drugs into the U.S. with her five children in a van.Officers say the incident happened on April 9 just after noon at the Otay Mesa port of entry.During an inspection of the family’s Honda Odyssey, authorities found anomalies in the spare tire well, quarter panels, doors and gas tank.RELATED: Teens targeted to smuggle Fentanyl across US-MexicoAfter inspecting the vehicle, officers found 206 packages containing methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin. The estimated street value of the drugs is more than million, according to CBP.“CBP has seen many forms of drug smuggling through the years,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego. “The hardest ones are when adults include their children in attempted smuggling schemes.”RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug, weapons chargesThe woman was arrested and taken to the Los Colinas Women’s detention center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wednesday, San Diegans who live in their cars rallied in Ocean Beach to press the city to allow living in vehicles, as residents in various neighborhoods pressure the city to ban the policy once again.Earlier this year, San Diego City Council members repealed its vehicle habitation ordinance after a federal judge found it unconstitutional which halted all enforcement. Then in March, Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced an effort to bring a ban back. The ordinance would prohibit residents from sleeping in their cars from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. within 500 feet of a school or house.Residents say reversing the ban leads to broken glass, bottles of urine, drug paraphanelia, and excrement on sidewalks in some areas. But supporters of the policy said Wednesday they don't park in front of homes or litter along roads. The city says they’ve received hundreds and hundreds of complaints about what people living in cars have done to their neighborhoods. Currently the city is expanding a safe parking program that would allow people to park overnight at monitored sites. 1085
