(KGTV) -- A card room in Chula Vista has built an elaborate outdoor facility as a way to continue its business and comply with San Diego County COVID-19 pandemic-related health guidelines.Seven Mile Casino’s new “card room” is actually a 5,500-square-foot tent, complete with tables distanced six feet apart, Plexiglass partitions to separate players, and touchless hand sanitizing stations around the tent.Before guests can enter the area, they must first go through a health screening. Staff and patrons must wear a face covering at all times while on the property.Seven Mile Casino spokesperson Brad Samuel said they’ve been working with health officials to make sure the casino meets all guidelines. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - At least one man was injured in a traffic collision today on southbound Interstate 805 near East Palomar Street in Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.At 11:10 a.m., a pickup truck flipped onto its side in a crash with a larger truck hauling boxes, according to a CHP incident log. The man was out of his pickup truck bleeding from a head wound.The larger truck continued southbound on I-805 after the crash, the CHP reported. The crash blocked two right lanes and traffic in the area was backed up, CHP officers on the scene said.No further information was immediately available. 620

Chipotle introduced its queso cheese sauce to the nation on Tuesday after years of customers asking Chipotle to have the product. Although there was a lot of pomp and circumstance among Chipotle fans about adding queso, it appears Chipotle's queso was not a hit. Chipotle had said for years that it could not offer queso while meeting its food standards. But last week, after testing queso at a local level, Chipotle said that Tuesday would be the first day queso would be available nationwide. It appears based on social media comments that Chipotle's queso was a disappointment.   650

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The city of Chula Vista is hoping "Granny Flats" will help ease the county's affordable housing crisis. Tuesday night, the city council unanimously voted to approve a series of changes designed to make it cheaper and easier to apply for a permit to build a granny flat or "accessory dwelling unit." The ordinance brings the city into state compliance. California lawmakers passed a measure last year loosening the regulation and reducing some fees associated with building. Chula Vista added a regulation aimed at preventing the units from becoming short-term vacation rentals. Under Chula Vista's ordinance, the homeowner must live on the property. Max Zaker owns a real estate company in Eastlake. He's also running for Chula Vista City Council. He said the city must find a way to keep up with its growth. "The average price for a two-bedroom condo is about ,700 to ,800 a month, so imagine a kid right out of college, they just got their first job. There's no way they're going to be able to afford it. So, if there was a granny flat they could stay at home," said Zaker. The new rules also eliminate parking requirements in some cases. If the property is located within half a mile from a public transit stop, the homeowner is no longer required to provide parking. "The whole idea is to make these affordable and less cumbersome and less excessive requirements," said Michael Walker, Chula Vista's senior planner. Walker estimates the reduction in fees could be a savings of roughly ,500. On average, the city only gets roughly 10 permit applications a month. City leaders hope that will change with the relaxed rules. "We are hoping this will encourage other types of residential development to happen in Chula  Vista so we can increase our housing stock because we have to," said Zaker. A second reading is required before the ordinance is officially passed. The new rules are expected to go into effect in May.  2109

(AP) — The potential magnitude of the wildfire disaster in Northern California escalated as officials raised the death toll to 71 and released a missing-persons list with 1,011 names on it more than a week after the flames swept through.The fast-growing roster of people unaccounted for probably includes some who fled the blaze and do not realize they have been reported missing, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said late Thursday.He said he made the list public in the hope that people will see they are on it and let authorities know they are OK."The chaos that we were dealing with was extraordinary," Honea said of the crisis last week, when the flames razed the town of Paradise and outlying areas in what has proved to be the nation's deadliest wildfire in a century. "Now we're trying to go back out and make sure that we're accounting for everyone."Firefighters continued gaining ground against the 222-square mile (575-square-kilometer) blaze, which was reported 45 percent contained Friday. It destroyed 9,700 houses and 144 apartment buildings, the state fire agency said.Rain in the forecast Tuesday night could help knock down the flames but also complicate efforts by more 450 searchers to find human remains in the ashes.
