SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A power outage affected thousands San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the Ocean Beach area and SeaWorld late Friday.The outage was reported just before 4 p.m. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the outage.SeaWorld said the power outage was short lived and only affected the central and west areas of the theme park. No guests were trapped on any rides or injured and all animals were okay, according to the park.UPDATED TRAFFIC CONDITIONSThe outage also hit a portion of San Diego International Airport. Officials say power has since been restored but had affected Terminal 2 and the Rental Car Center.In total, about 15,000 customers have been affected, according to the power company. Crews were able to restore all power as of 5:40 p.m., according to SDG&E. 822

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local Naval officer is making a plea for tips after thieves made off with some priceless military heirlooms.On Tuesday, Gervy Alota's wife called him after she returned to their home on Linbrook Drive."Just completely ransacked my house...my heart sunk," said Alota.Since there were no clear signs of entry, Alota believes the thieves got in through the doggie door in the back of the home.Among the missing items were several dozen collectible Jordan sneakers and about 15 pieces of jewelry, including Alota's class ring from the Naval Academy.  He calls it a symbol of the start of his 20-year Navy career.  A class ring belonging to his wife - also a graduate - was also stolen. 720

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died Saturday night after deputies say he was attacked by a group of people while crossing the street in Vista. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the attack happened at 10 p.m. at the intersection of West Vista Way and Valencia Drive. Witnesses say the man was at the intersection when he was attacked by three men and a woman all in their 20s. RELATED: Man arrested after driving into crowd outside Encinitas barAfter falling to the ground, the victim was able to crawl onto the sidewalk before collapsing. He later died after being taken to the hospital. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate any of the suspects. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A nurse who pleaded guilty in the brutal death of her boyfriend's baby has been granted parole."Angry, angry," said Deanna Stanley, the grandmother of 7-month-old Nicole Alegado.Stanley spoke to 10News after attending a state parole board hearing Thursday and learning the woman who killed her granddaughter was granted parole.Back in 2008, in order to avoid a trial, the baby's family supported a plea deal. "Emotionally we couldn't handle it," said Stanley.Eileen Villamajor, a nurse living in National City, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing her boyfriend's daughter, saying she was frustrated by her cries. She was sentenced to 15 years to life."Eileen picked her up by the hair and threw her to the ground twice. Nicole remained crying. Eileen held her head in her hands until she heard it crack, at which time Nicole stopped crying," said Stanley.Stanley sat through those unbearable details at Villamayor's parole hearing in Corona. She listened to Villamayor's petition, including her good behavior in prison and completion of classes to control her emotions. Stanley is still convinced Villamayor is dangerous."For someone to do something that something horrific with their hands ... I don't know if you can cure that in a class," said Stanley.Stanely says Villamayor showed no remorse during the hearing but revealed something new about the motive, which involved about Nicole taking up her father's time."She said she hated Nicole, resented Nicole. To me that shows premeditation. If we had gone to trial, I think she would have been convicted of first-degree murder," said Stanley.In the end, the parole board deciding to grant Villamayor parole. She could serve 13 years and 7 months of a sentence of 15 years to life. Proposition 57 passed in 2016 allows her to accrue good behavior credits which can reduce a life sentence."There is no justice here," said Stanley.The earliest Villamayor can be released is March 2020. The family has 120 days to appeal to the governor's office to overturn the decision, which they plan to do. The District Attorney's office, which backed the family at the hearing, says they will likely write a letter urging the governor to overturn the parole decision. 2250

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new poll shows that a majority of San Diegans support stricter gun laws in the U.S.A Survey USA poll released Sunday morning shows that 71 percent of those asked in San Diego support stricter gun laws while 18 percent say they oppose tighter gun restrictions.Meanwhile, 32 percent of those asked say even private gun ownership makes the country less safe while 29 percent says it makes no difference.Of those asked about safety, 76 percent of San Diegans say they worry their child could be a victim of a school shooting.RELATED: San Diegans rally for gun control in March for Our Lives eventsWhile 73 percent of people polled say they don’t know anyone who’s ever been a victim of gun violence, 27 percent of those polled say they worry a great deal about being a victim of a shooting.As far as a possible solution, 77 percent of people polled say Congress needs to do more to address gun violence.
