(KGTV) - With car horns blaring, cellphone video captured a fight breaking out at a busy intersection in San Diego near Montgomery High School.The incident played out at Palm Avenue and Beyer Way - just feet from the high school - as school let out Friday afternoon. In the crosswalk, there was a flurry off punches. A teen in a hoodie is recorded battering another student on the ground. Some other teens joins the fray and more punches are traded."It's stupid. Why have a fight so dramatic like that? It could cause a car accident," a student told 10News. We are not naming the student at the request of their family.The student doesn't know what sparked the fight, but says those involved were juniors. The student told 10News this was the third big fight on campus this year. "Just make us look bad. Students should set a good example for our school," the student said.There were no accidents, but some of those drivers did get out of their cars. A witness tells us some tried to stop the fight. In the now-viral video, a crowd of people spill across the crosswalk. The melee lasted more than 20 minutes before it broke up. Police arrived but did not make any arrests.Janet Paz, a mother of two students at the school, says it sends a bad message."Makes me feel worried that kids aren't safe in school," said Paz.A spokesperson with the Sweetwater Union High School District says they believe they've identified the three-to-five students involved and are mulling possible discipline. Part of the investigation will include determining the cause of the fight and addressing any campus-wide issues. 1628

(KGTV) -- A group of University City residents is suing the city of San Diego over its plan to pump sewage under their neighborhood to be turned into tap water. The nonprofit University City Community Foundation filed the lawsuit after raising ,000 from residents to challenge the environmental impact report for the city's Pure Water pipeline. The suit doesn't challenge the city's goal of making heavily treated reclaimed water one-third of its supply by 2035. The city says that will protect against future shortages and price increases. The lawsuit, however, says the city did not explore alternatives and did not adequately notify the public of the project's pipeline. It will pump sewage from the Morena Area, through Clairemont and University City, to a treatment plant at UTC. "There's no 100 percent guarantee that there could not be a leak, there could not be some discharge," said U.C. resident Barry Bernstein, who supports the lawsuit. "There could be some discharge. There may be some problems with the purification system."Ruth DeSantis, who heads the foundation, said the city and foundation are now in settlement talks. A city spokesman declined to comment on the lawsuit, but said there are multiple protections in place - including a system designed to immediately cut off to avoid sewage geysers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The high temperatures, dry brush, and low humidity are leading to elevated fire danger in San Diego County this week.Cal Fire San Diego is asking everyone to be prepared for the possibility of a wildfire igniting.“We depend on the public to be careful; we depend on the public to be prepared at a moment’s notice to evacuate,” said Cal Fire Captain, Isaac Sanchez.“The fact that the winds aren’t there, it does not help us sleep at night; we’re still very dry. It’s still October, and we know that even though there aren’t winds now, we can bet money that there will be winds later.”As fire danger remains a threat across the county, families braved the heat taking schoolwork outside at Mast Park in Santee, after being stuck at home for months.“It’s so much easier for the kids to stay motivated on getting their work done,” Jennifer Sailler. “It’s harder to stay inside our home with the AC running than it is to be outside in the warm heat.”The heat is also keeping business going for some.“My job requires me to have a close relationship with snakes and the sun,” said Alex Trejo, So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal. “When it’s hot, what they’re actually doing is trying to find shelter. “Trejo removes rattlesnakes from properties and relocates them to areas where they can have a second chance at life.He said he’s been getting more calls for rattlesnake removals in the East County during the hot weather.“It’s very important to understand the nature of the snake; the snake is not out to hurt people, the snake is a survival expert,” he said. “My priority is making sure families are safe during this heatwave because they will be coming on people’s properties right now.”The heat advisory will remain in effect until 5 PM Friday. 1757
