BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Industrial enterprises in 22 Chinese provinces, regions and municipalities generated 1.11 trillion yuan (163 billion U.S. dollars) of profit in the first seven months, down 17.3 percent from the same period last year, according to the latest official figures.     The decline is 3.8 percentage points lower than that in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement Friday.     The revenues gathered by the industrial companies' core businesses reached 21.4 trillion yuan in the first seven months, up 0.9 percent from last year. The growth rate is 0.5 percentage points higher than that in the first six months.     Of the 39 industrial sectors, 14 achieved a rebound in profit growth, nine recorded a slow-down in profit declines and four turned slumping profit to rebounding profit.     The 22 regions refer to China's provinces, regions and municipalities minus Beijing, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hunan, Guangdong, Anhui, Hainan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Tibet Autonomous Region.     The NBS used to publicize national industrial profit every two months, but began to issue the information monthly to improve monitoring frequency on economy this year. Only 22 provinces, regions or municipalities now provide monthly industrial profit data.

BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Fifty-two types of new weapon systems developed with China's own technologies, including airborne early warning and control (AEWC) aircraft, will be showcased at the military parade celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.     Further cutting-edge weaponry would include sophisticated radar, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and satellite communication devices of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), Lieutenant General Fang Fenghui, general director of the parade, told Xinhua Wednesday.     The Oct. 1 parade would also show personnel and equipment from the navy, air force and China's ballistic missile corps, Fang said.     Fang did not identify the specific models of the weapon systems but said all of the weapons are tagged: "Made in China".     "They (the weapon systems) embody the ongoing transformation of the PLA from a labor-intensive force to technology-intensive might be capable of joint operations in modern warfare," said Fang, who is also commander of the PLA's Beijing Military Area Command.     "The weapon systems to be shown in the parade also showcase the ability of the PLA to carry out diverse military missions," he said.     There will be 56 regiments on the ground and in the air during the parade, symbolizing the country's 56 ethnic groups marching along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics in solidarity, Fang said.     Fourteen of the regiments will march through Chang'an Avenue on foot, 30 in wheeled transport and 12 will take to the air.     All the troops in the parade will be dressed in PLA 07-type uniforms and most of them are from generations born in the 1980s and 1990s.     Compared with the previous military parade on National Day 10 years ago, this one would have less troops and equipment but increased high-tech weaponry and special force units, Fang said.

LANZHOU, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 550 primary and middle school students flew back to quake-hit Chinese provinces from Russia Wednesday after completing a three-week recuperative tour.     The teenagers, 340 from Sichuan Province, 110 from Gansu Province and 100 from Shaanxi Province, were invited by the Russian government to recuperate at the "Ocean" All-Russia Children's Care Center in Vladivostok, Far East, since July 23.     The students boasted excellent performance at their schools and demonstrated bravery in the devastating earthquake in May last year. BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday urged concrete measures to maintain stability, which he described as an "arduous" task.     Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks at a meeting after hearing reports on the preparation for the security during the National Day holiday and the situations in the country's far western Xinjiang and Tibet.     "While on the whole the social situation is stable, the country now faces grave challenges in maintaining stability, and the task is arduous," Zhou said.     Currently, the overwhelming political task is to maintain the stability of the capital, said Zhou.     Grand celebrations will be held on Oct. 1 in Beijing to mark the 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China.     Zhou urged officials and security workers to "fully prepare themselves for the most complicated situation" in order to ensure the smooth run of all activities during the National Day holiday.     Describing the security campaign as a "people's war", Zhou urged the capital's neighboring areas to strengthen security check and stamp out any factors that might harm stability outside Beijing "with utmost efforts."     Zhou noted that maintaining stability in Xinjiang, where recent needle attacks caused public scare and triggered mass protests after the riot on July 5, is also one of the most significant missions.     The riot left 197 people dead in Urumqi, the regional capital of Xinjiang, while five died during the mass protests in the city last week.     In addition, Zhou urged the local government in Tibet Autonomous Region to strengthen management on monasteries and "strictly" prevent any harmful attempts from separatists.     He said currently people across the country are all hoping for stability and development and "we are fully confident" in managing the security well around National Day.
