The mayor of Austin, Texas, has apologized after reports revealed that he delivered an address urging his constituents to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while he was vacationing in Mexico."I regret this travel," Austin Mayor Steve Adler, a Democrat, said in a statement, according to The Austin American-Statesman. "My fear is that this travel, even having happened during a safer period, could be used by some as justification for risky behavior. In hindsight, and even though it violated no order, it set a bad example for which I apologize."According to the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV in Austin, Adler took the trip after he hosted a small outdoor wedding ceremony for his daughter in early November. Both outlets report that there were about 20 guests at the wedding — more than the recommended guidelines of a limit of 10 per gathering that was in effect at the time.Following the ceremony, KVUE reports that Adler and eight family members boarded a private jet and traveled to Cabo San Lucas for a resort vacation. One day into that trip, on Nov. 9, Adler urged Austinites to stay at home."We need to stay home if you can," Adler said in that video, according to the American-Stateman. "This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely. ... We may have to close things down if we are not careful."Adler told the American-Statesman that he consulted with public health officials before hosting the wedding and that all 20 guests were required to undergo rapid COVID-19 tests before attending. The Los Angeles County District Attorney is forming a task force to evaluate sexual assault cases in Hollywood."In response to the widespread allegations of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, I have established a task force of specially trained deputy district attorneys who are ready to evaluate these cases if any are referred to my office for criminal prosecution," Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement. The House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines Thursday to release the Republican report on Russian meddling, after it goes through the declassification process.The top Democrat on the committee, Rep. The Phoenix Police Department says the ex-boyfriend of Kiera Bergman, a 19-year-old woman who has been missing since August 4, has been arrested for identity theft.Police say 23-year-old Jon Clark was being questioned in relation to Bergman’s disappearance when police found several items with the personal identification of other people as well as items indicating forgery in his vehicle.Clark was arrested Friday and booked into jail for 22 counts of aggravated identity theft and two counts of forgery.Police have given no indication that this arrest connects Clark to Bergman’s missing person’s case.Bergman was last seen at her home near on Aug. 4.According to police, Bergman never returned home after leaving and has not been seen or heard from since.Kiersten Bragg, Bergman's mother, says her daughter went to work that Saturday morning, and Clark picked her up but she never made it back to their apartment.Police still say her disappearance is considered suspicious, and they are still asking anyone with any information on her disappearance to call 480-WITNESS. 1085
