SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting behind closed doors Thursday evening to discuss how to potentially keep businesses open after Gov. Gavin Newsom denied removing San Diego State’s COVID-19 cases from the county’s total case rate.The meeting, though, yielding no new actions by the county.In a statement, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said since the board took no action, "it would be inappropriate to comment on the deliberation.""In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California. We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact," Fletcher said.The county is now at risk of moving back to the most restrictive purple tier if the case rate is higher than 7.0 by next week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Friday the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in East Village.Gary Cushinberry, 51, dragged the woman into some bushes near 13th Street and Island Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on November 5, police said. After the assault, Cushinberry ran west toward Island Avenue, police said.The woman had been walking alone to her car when she was attacked.The San Diego Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit released a composite sketch of the suspect the following day. Through tips and leads, investigators identified Cushinberry as the suspect.Police found Cushinberry Friday morning in the 200 block of 17th Street. He was arrested on several sex assault charges and taken to San Diego County Central Jail.Officers also confirmed that Cushinberry had an outstanding warrant for theft in Allen County, Indiana.Police are asking anyone with information to call the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 975

San Diego International Airport is relocating its cell phone waiting lot to an area northwest of its current location on June 24. Drivers may park for free in the cell phone lot for up to an hour while they wait for loved ones to notify them of their arrival, avoiding traffic and illegal parking at the terminals.The new 85-space lot will be located east of the Airport Authority Administration Building on Harbor Drive. According to police, the woman entered the bank on the 9200 block of Miramar Road just before 6 p.m. Thursday. Police say the woman demanded money from the teller, who handed the suspect an unknown amount of cash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans may start to feel meaningful relief from the housing crisis within 10 years, state Assemblyman Todd Gloria said Thursday.Speaking to 10News before a forum on how to create housing for the middle class, Gloria said a series of new laws going into effect Jan. 1, and other efforts, could help bring relief to rising rents and home prices. “I think it’s reasonable within the decade to see change on this, this problem has become so acute that people really are demanding solutions,” Gloria said. “I think a lot of my colleagues in the legislature also understand that they have to do something. What’s been done in recent history is not working.”Gloria pointed to Governor-elect Gavin Newsom’s platform of radically increasing the amount of housing production in California. Gloria said he wants to pursue relaunching the state's redevelopment program, which paves the way for affordable housing.He said a series of new laws will also take effect Jan. 1, including one that provides financial incentives to developers who build housing for middle-income earners near transit centers. "You can pay your fees on a square footage basis rather than a per unit basis, that should result in some savings, and if done correclty at the right price points there can actually be less parking, which also saves costs,” Gloria said.Still, there is a long way to go.
