SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego elementary school teacher was arrested this week and accused of distributing child pornography.Authorities arrested 59-year-old David Weaks, a fifth-grade teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary School in City Heights, Thursday and charged with distributing child pornography of young girls, including a toddler, according to a complaint filed by the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.According to documents, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security special agent was able to download two child pornography videos of young females from Weaks computer through peer-to-peer software.The IP address associated with the download was tracked to a residence in San Diego and a subscriber with the last name of Weaks, the complaint says.Authorities say a search of Weaks' residence and his computer revealed numerous files featuring child pornography.The complaint said Weaks admitted to obtaining and distributing child pornography through the file-sharing software over the internet. He also admitted to possessing similar materials on an external hard drive.Weaks is scheduled for a detention hearing on April 24. The government has requested he be held without bond on the grounds that he "is a danger to the community and a flight risk."He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and 0,000 fine if convicted. 1421

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new streaming documentary follows young San Diegans on a life-changing trip to the Philippines."Filgrimage" focuses on eight Filipino-Americans during a 2019 summer trip to the Philippines with The Filipino School."If we don't have programs like this, then we as Filipino-Americans are only going to know what we have time to know, or what we're exposed to," says Tony Olaes, the founder of The Filipino School and organizer of the trip.He says a similar trip to the Philippines 14 years ago inspired him to learn more about his culture. That's what he hopes this trip does for the people who take it."I went from not wanting to be Filipino to 'Mr. Filipino,'" he says. "It's because I understood something amazingly beautiful about who I was. So that's how this all started."Olaes took 23 people on the trip in 2019. A documentary crew followed them as they visited several parts of the archipelago."This is something that you can't really get unless you actually experience it for yourself," says Jocelynne Monteheromoso, one of the teens profiled in the documentary. "The fact that we were going through it and it was recorded on camera is just something so beautiful that I feel that our generation especially needs to know about.""I hope this encourages anyone who is embarrassed of their culture, or straight away or doesn't even know about their culture, to try and put some work to figure out more about it," says Ryah Hernandez, who says she discovered a beauty in the region that she didn't know about from family trips as a child.San Diego has the second-largest Filipino population of any county in the US. Olaes says he hopes this documentary will give people who don't have the time or means to take a trip like this a glimpse into their ancestral homeland. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A juvenile was arrested Wednesday for allegedly making a threat against a San Diego Unified School District high school.The juvenile was arrested at Serra High School for the alleged threat, according to SDUSD. The suspect told school police the comment was not meant to be taken seriously. While police deemed the threat non-credible, they determined the comment meant the definition of a criminal threat.The language of the threat and how it was issued was not immediately clear.RELATED: DA: Nine minors charged in recent threats to local schoolsClasses at Serra High were held on a normal scheduled Wednesday despite the report.
