SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police arrested a man this week on suspicion of vandalizing parked cars in Bankers Hill and East Village. Alexander Galarza, 34, was booked into jail Monday on multiple counts of felony vandalism, according to SDPD Lt. Dan Smyth. Galarza used a pole to break the windows of 10 cars in Bankers Hill late Sunday night, police said. He left the area before officers reached the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city's Get It Done mobile app has led to thousands of tons of trash being removed.In the app's first three years, more than 7,000 tons of trash, debris, and waste has been removed from public spaces around the city.The city broke that number up into:Illegal dumping/litter removal - 4,440 tons of wasteEncampment debris cleanup - 2,528 tons of wasteThe app was made available in 2017 to encourage residents to report trash and other concerns in their neighborhoods. Since then, city crews have responded to more than 6,500 reports and conducted more than 32,000 proactive cleanups.The average response time has also shrunk from 25 days in 2017 to five days in 2020, the city says.Council members have also been able to use the data received from the app to identify hot spots in their districts.The app is part of the city's "Clean SD" program. The program was born out of a need to clean unsanitary areas in the public, including homeless encampments, according to the city. Since 2017, the city has sanitized and power washed 18,000 city blocks, or about 1,800 miles of sidewalk."Clean SD is all about restoring a sense of pride in our communities and making sure our neighborhoods are clean and safe for everyone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego firefighters came to the rescue of a Mountain View family after they lost their home to a fire the day after Christmas.The fire left seven people displaced after tearing through the home just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Teak Street near Ocean View Boulevard. The fire burned through one of two homes on the lot and the family says they had to pull bars off the window to escape the fire, leaving four people injured.While crews responded and were able to get the fire quickly under control, the family lost everything — including Christmas presents that two little girls who lived in the burned home had unwrapped just one day earlier.That's when San Diego Fire-Rescue stepped in. Sunday, firefighters from Stations 12 and 19 delivered gift cards, toys, and clothing to help the family through their loss. "The gifts were courtesy of the San Diego City Fire Fighters Local 145. The family was very appreciative of this wonderful surprise that illustrates the generous spirit of the holiday season," the department said on social media.The family has also started a GoFundMe to help with expenses due to the fire. 1149

"For other entities that have chosen to act irresponsibly, entities in particular like the Awaken Church where we have been forced to have to share outbreak information because of their lack of cooperation and notifying members of their congregation about cases there, we continue to implore the public to recognize the very real danger of indoor religious services."Following the initial announcements of an outbreak, the church continued to hold indoor services. The church has received multiple cease-and-desist orders from the county.The church's website says it has moved Wednesday services in San Diego online through December. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Harbor Police have cited a charter company for violating the county's health order. A sergeant for Harbor PD confirmed with 10News that Flagship Cruises and Events was cited for being in violation. The county health order states that recreational boating is allowed provided all occupants of a boat are from the same household.10News cameras were rolling as people walked onto the Flagship Cruises and Events dock and onto the company's Spirit of San Diego, capturing the boat's departure and arrival back into the bay. It is unclear if those boarding were all members of one family. 10News reached out to the company and a spokesperson sent us a picture of the county health order saying "We are stating we are part of section 14E, not C. That section states in part, "other public or private outdoor recreational facilities (other than community pools per State order), including recreational equipment (such as bicycle, boat, kayak, equestrian and surfboard) rentals may be open for limited use."Flagship's website states, "We are Open" and has several sections outlining how they are operating during the pandemic. One section states that masks are required for passengers and everyone must respect six-feet social distancing guidelines. The website also states that all employees will be in masks, gloves and screen upon arrival. Also adding that the company is limiting the number of passengers per cruise to allow for maximum distancing and that they've invested in new machinery to sanitize all chairs between cruises. Harbor Police says the citation for violating the county health order has a maximum fine of a thousand dollars and up to a year in jail. 1702
