MARGATE, Fla. — A South Florida woman just couldn't wait to have her baby.Susan Anderson and her husband, Joseph, had almost made it inside Natural BirthWorks in Margate last Friday when baby Julia decided to meet the world early.Doorbell video shared by owner Gelena Hinkley showed the moment of birth.Video shows the mother crouching over in the parking lot while midwife Sandy Lobaina stands behind her.Anderson screamed just as two police officers, who happened to be in the area at the time, walked up to her."She's OK," Lobaina said. "I'm the midwife. She's here to have the baby."Anderson let out a big scream and Lobaina caught the baby as the officers watched in disbelief.After Julia's birth, Anderson was helped into the medical center by the child's father and Lobaina.In the video Hinkley ran into the frame just moments after the birth — but not fast enough."Un-freaking-believable," Hinkley said, seemingly disappointed she missed the party."What was going through my mind was, 'Get in the tub. Get in the tub.' Because I just wanted that relief," Anderson said.Lobaina said she has some crazy births before, but this was a first."Babies sometimes come really quick…and you just got to be quick, put your gloves on and just go," Lobaina said.Although Hinkley missed all the action, she's seen the video and has a good sense of humor."It was the best handoff ever," she said. MILLIKEN, Colo. — Beatriz Rangel holds onto precious moments with her father. She took hundreds of pictures over the years, and now, she is more grateful than ever to have them.Her family made time to visit each other every single week, but they also loved vacationing together. “We’d just hit the road and go everywhere,” said Rangel of her parents and siblings.Looking back on their moments of joy is now helping Rangel find a shred of peace.“He loved posing for pictures and I loved taking them,” she said of her dad, Saul Sanchez. “We had so many good times.”She never expected those memories to end so soon. “I still have a hard time believing that my father is gone.”At 78 years old, Sanchez died on April 7 after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19. The loss is still fresh in Rangel’s mind.“I got a text, a group text message, from my older sister that said, ‘Dad and mom were just here. Dad can't even walk. There's something definitely wrong,’” said Rangel.Soon after, Sanchez went to the hospital and he tested positive for the virus. That was the last time his family would see him in person.Rangel made sure to speak to her dad as much as she could while he was in the hospital. “I called him and he sounded great,” she said. “He’s like, ‘Hi honey, hola mija. You know I'm doing OK. I’ll be fine, I’ll be back to work on Monday,’” Rangel remembered.However, Sanchez never left his hospital bed. Within days, doctors put the father of six on a ventilator.“We just thought, ‘Oh they're going to help him breathe,’” said Rangel.Sanchez’s condition took a turn for the worse suddenly and Rangel got a call she will never forget.“They're like, ‘We want you to say goodbye, and they're taking him off the ventilator.’ I just told him that…that I loved him, and I was going to miss him, and thank you for all the lessons, but I knew he wanted us to be happy. You know, he wanted us to find joy in whatever we did, 'cause he loved life. They took him off the ventilator, and within like two, three minutes he passed away, so it was very, very hard,” said Rangel through tears.Months later, with the pain of the loss still just as deep as it was in the spring, the true cost of this virus is becoming all too clear to Rangel and her family.“He helped so many people, and he was, for our family, the glue. So I think we all really, really miss that. We miss that one person that always made us feel like anything was possible.”Saul Sanchez’s life proved just that. He brought his family from Mexico to America, leaving his life behind for a better future for his children.“He came here with nothing because of my sister Patty being sick and needing health care, and his biggest thing was education. He went and got his GED at 60, 60 years old. He didn't care about his age, he cared about what he could learn and how he could be a help to society and contribute to the community,” said Rangel.Losing the person who cared about her family most is making a time of year meant for joy harder than she imagined, and now Rangel just hopes her community will see the hole in her heart as a warning to keep others safe.“I feel like he was my backbone, and I don’t have it anymore,” said Rangel. “You go through, ‘Who am I?’ You’re lost, because I don’t have him to tell me, ‘Honey you’re going to be fine, you’re going to be great.’”For the more than 250,000 Americans who have passed away from COVID-19 this year, their families know the same pain. Counselors say making time for the traditions your loved one enjoyed can help honor their memory. That’s something Rangel plans to do.“It’s very hard to have the spirit to want to celebrate,” she said. “It is going through the motions, but we still have to do it because that's what Dad would want.”Even though this Christmas cannot bring her the gift she really wants, Rangel knows the warmth and kindness her dad showed her will be there.“There is a lot of goodness that went away with him, but I was thankful, grateful to have him fifty two years of my life,” she said. 4024

Marine Sergeant Richard Murphy was missing in action for more than seven decades in a World War II battle on the Pacific front.Murphy’s amphibious landing craft got stuck on a reef and everyone had to abandon ship to get to shore. He stayed behind to help another wounded Marine."That’s when shell fire came in and blew up the craft and Uncle Richard and his fellow marine were never seen again alive," said Jerry Murphy, Richard’s nephew.Jerry and his cousin Jeanne Robinson’s DNA were used to identify Richard’s remains that washed up on the beach in Sia Pan in 1944. Jerry, along with his cousins, had never met Sergeant Murphy, yet the family bond is strong."It’s an amazing family experience it’s got us all here together," said Jerry.Sgt. Murphy had more than just his duties as a fighting Marine."Uncle Richard, in addition to carrying his pack as a marine and his M-1 rifle, had a typewriter with him because he was a war correspondent," said Jerry.Funerals are usually a solemn occasion."But this is a celebratory time,"Jerry said. "It’s a happy and upbeat type of event and so extraordinary."Robinson is Sgt. Murphy’s niece and never met her uncle but was well aware of his military achievements. "He was always with us. MIDWAY, Utah — A locksmith in Utah says he was tipped off by something very strange at a recent job, which led to him helping a woman escape from a kidnapping.The woman signaled she needed help in a discreet way, and the locksmith called police."I would have been second guessing myself if I didn't do anything," said Greg, who didn't want his last name out there for safety reasons.He owns a locksmith business and described how a lot of jobs that come in are simple "locksmithing 101."It was that kind of simple job he thought he was doing on Friday at a home in Midway.When Greg showed up to re-key a lock on the front door, he says things seemed very off between the woman who lived in the home and a man who was with her."There was a gentleman that was kind of hovering over her, wouldn't get really more than a foot away from her," he said. He described the behavior as "shadowing," and said it was very weird.Greg went outside to his van to make new keys. When he stepped back inside the house, he says the woman gave Greg a sign she needed help."She's sitting there talking to me about what types of payment I take and everything, and she's kind of turning, she's at a little bit of a different angle and she's holding up her hand kind of like this with her palm open, and she has '911' written on her hand," Greg remembered. "So obviously, that drew some attention from me. But I was wearing a mask, so I couldn't mouth anything to her or anything."Greg also noticed that the woman had to ask the man to get access to her phone, in order to pay Greg over Venmo."That kind of was another little red flag," he said. "She's showing me the '911' again, kind of making sure that I saw it. And I made eye contact with her, to basically let her know that 'yeah, I saw it.'"Greg said it caused him turmoil and he didn't know what to do. He left and immediately called a friend he knows in the FBI to consult about what he saw. His friend told him to call police immediately, so Greg called the Wasatch County dispatch to report what he saw at the home.The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office responded and arrested Grant Nielsen Eggertsen on charges of aggravated kidnapping, interruption of a communication device and assault.According to charging documents and the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, Eggertsen previously dated the woman and became upset that she was dating someone new.He had a key to the house, documents state, and showed up on Oct. 1, took the woman's phone, assaulted her and made threats to harm himself and burn down the woman's home.Documents state that Eggertsen kept the woman's phone, wouldn't let her call for help and wouldn't let her leave her room or house.It was the next day that Greg showed up for his appointment the woman had previously scheduled to change the locks. She told police she made the appointment before Eggertsen arrived because she didn't want him in the home."The lady was pretty smart to be able to do what she did," Greg said. "And so, it's not like I was trying to guess what was really going on. She gave me some great clues that there was an issue there."For a call that went beyond changing the locks, Greg got the job done."When found out that he had been arrested, charged and stuff, I was kind of like, 'Okay, good. Good. That's good,'" he said.
