"We've always been flexible in our workplace, we've always allowed people to work from home if they want, and what we learned is that people do want a place that is their own that we can come into," said Reid Carr, CEO of the marketing agency Red Door Interactive. After years of leasing an office in downtown San Diego, the company wanted to create its own space, designed to foster collaboration and growth."We were excited when we found it, we had a vision for how this whole process was going to go down," said Carr. But after the pandemic hit, they overhauled the design to ensure it was a space employees not only wanted to go to but could feel safe in.The new campus will incorporate touchless features throughout the buildings, like doors and water bottle filling stations. They're creating outdoor meeting spaces with heaters and shades so that they can be used year-round. And inside, they're investing in the best available HVAC systems for air filtration."I'm learning at all this stuff as we go, but we're looking at hospital grade stuff. The perspective we took is there's always going to be flus and colds, so why not do these things that will help keep people from spreading disease," said Carr. In addition to having their own socially distanced desks, employees will have designated areas separate from visitors, including the kitchen. One building will be the epicenter of conference rooms so they can be easily cleaned more frequently."Certain things never change. You want to feel like you belong to something, you want to connect with people," said Carr. As many restaurants navigate reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic, some have had to close their doors for good. Many of the hardest hit are buffet-style restaurants as national and state agencies are trying their best to safely keep buffets operating."The toughest part of restaurants right now is if you’ve got a buffet, how do you provide that safely? And so what we’ve guided folks currently is that you can have a buffet but you have to have somebody serve you," says Rob Mortensen, President and CEO of Hospitality Tennessee. The group is working closely with the National Restaurant Association and government officials to provide guidelines for restaurants and hotels during the coronavirus pandemic."As I worked with [Tenn. Gov. Bill Lee] on guidance for restaurants and attractions, our biggest issues are around buffets and big sporting events where you have tens of thousands of people together, because it’s hard to reduce that contact," says Mortensen.Many people are used to being able to serve yourself at a buffet but experts are now advising buffet-style restaurants to instead have restaurant employees serve customers. Even hotels that normally offer a morning buffet are instead offering their guests breakfast to-go."I would say look at how you’re doing things. "The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death."Trump's rallies have generally included thousands of supporters standing shoulder to shoulder. While masks are often handed to supporters, most supporters at rallies opt not to wear them.Public health experts say that a combination of masks and keeping six feet of distance helps minimize the virus's spread, which has claimed more than 230,000 American lives since the spring.Public health experts have also encouraged people to hold gatherings outside, as most Trump rallies since he resumed campaigning in June have been held outdoors with a few exceptions.Trump has often mocked his opponent Joe Biden, who has held much smaller events to spread out the crowd.
