NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - One person was shot near a convenience store in National City Tuesday.The shooting happened about 11 a.m. near the 7-Eleven at 151 N. Highland Ave. near Eta.A clerk at the store confirmed the parking lot was blocked off by police. These kids and their parents are having to make the effort to find a routine that works.Mother Kim Alvidrez says she has her twin 6-year-olds treat school from home the same way they would if they were heading to class. That includes having breakfast and breaks at the same time.She sees frustration in her kids for not having one-on-one teacher help and not being around other students.“It’s hard, as a mom to watch your kids. They want it. They want to be there, and they want to be involved but they can’t fully participate,” said Alvidrez. “It’s just their presence that’s counted. And that’s their time. That’s my biggest concern. “Alvidrez says her kids are kept silent during Zoom lessons and are encouraged to not ask questions. If questions are asked, she says it’s limited to one or two.Child psychologists say parents need to work through those struggles and remain positive to help create a better learning environment.“The number one way kids learn is by watching what their parents do,” said Dr. Jessica Hawks, a child psychologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. “So, if a parent can present an optimistic and positive about the fact that their child's in online schooling, the child's more likely to embrace that philosophy and mentality and can really be helpful overall to the engagement.”Hawks says parents also need positive routines for kids, which include proper eating and sleep habits, along with a designated area for kids to do their online work.As for Alvidrez, she says one positive is her twins are in the same class. 1665

MoviePass is making big changes in a bid to stay alive.The service, which lets subscribers see a movie a day in the theater, is raising the price of its standard plan from to .95 per month. The change will take effect in the next 30 days.And some major releases will be "limited in their availability" on the service for the first two weeks they're in theaters.It's not clear how "limited" those films will be to MoviePass users. The company did say that big movies may be made available through promotions.MoviePass subscribers have already reported similar restrictions. MILWAUKEE -- Six cars were damaged Friday when light poles fell across traffic lanes on I-43 near Milwaukee.According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a red pick-up truck heading northbound hit both of the light poles in the median just before 3:30 p.m. A witness at a law firm off Hampton Avenue said she saw the truck drive up onto the median and hit one pole, before continuing on to hit a second. "Unfortunately one of them kind of struck the side of the car, put a hole in the door, took a mirror out," said Jim Lovering, whose daughter called him after swerving to avoid the two poles.Lovering's 7-month-old grandson was also in the car. "Just missed the windshield, which was a blessing," said Lovering. The camera caught deputies taking away the driver of the red truck in handcuffs. Authorities have not yet released any information confirming an arrest, or possible charges. The accident caused backups for miles during rush hour, as crews worked to remove the poles from the roadway. No one in any of the cars was injured. "It was just nice that she had the space to maneuver and without hitting anybody else or causing any further damage," said Lovering. "It could be potentially you know a serious accident. Thank God it didn't happen."  1341

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A 22-year-old man was killed in a shooting at Opry Mills Mall, which caused chaos for shoppers inside.First responders initially answered a call of an active shooter in the mall, which prompted a heavy police presence, but they learned the call was not accurate once at the scene.The shooting happened inside the mall in a hallway near the Auntie Anne's pretzel shop across from Old Navy around 2:23 p.m. The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.According to police officials, a dispute at the mall between two men ended in gunfire. The suspected shooter ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside. He placed his gun on the booth counter and told the people inside to call 911. He then surrendered to police once they arrived.There was no additional imminent threat known. Both he and the victim are 22 years old and from Nashville.Some Metro Nashville Public Schools were placed on lockout for a short time including Two River’s Middle School, Pennington Elementary School, McGavock Elementary School, Stanford Montessori and Litton Middle School. It has since been lifted.Three students were still at the Academy at Opry Mills when the shooting happened and were able to get out and taken to McGavock High School.Opry Mills Mall spans 1,154,000 square feet with more than 200 stores. It also includes nine sit-down restaurants.Officials said it appeared to have been an ongoing dispute that prompted the shooting. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.Customers inside the mall were told to stay put and away from the entrances.They said the mall was being swept by officers as a precaution. Police evacuated Bass Pro, Johnny Rockets, the food court and other areas.The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, was placed on lockdown when the shooting occurred, but it has since been lifted. 1974
