With the rising cost of higher education, that is leaving fewer dollars in students' pockets. One example of the effect rising costs are possibly having on students is some students are going hungry. According to a Temple University study, nearly 36 percent of students were considered food insecure at some point in the proceeding 30 days of the study. Food insecurity is defined as limited or uncertain access to nutritional food. The study involved 66 institutions across 20 states and the District of Columbia. Four and two-year institutions were included in Temple's study. Also alarming according to the study was that 36 percent of college students were housing insecure, and 9 percent were homeless. And despite lower costs at two-year colleges, a higher percentage of students were facing food and housing insecurities. The study claimed 42 percent of students at two-year colleges faced food insecurities, compared to 36 percent at four-year schools. Although the costs are lower at community colleges, researchers believe the rising cost of college is a significant factor causing students to go hungry. "Prices have gone up over time," Sara Goldrick-Rab, a professor of higher education policy at Temple and the lead author of the report, told the Washington Post. "But the rising price is just a piece. This is a systemic problem." To read the full study, click here.  1439

A’Deja's sister, Jalen and her father are also hearing impaired. Jalen had success with cochlear implants in the past, so on Thursday, the family traveled to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.“It’s so exciting,” said A’Deja’s mom Patricia.Following the implant procedure, A’Deja heard her family’s voices for the first time. The toddler's grandparents were also there.“This moment never gets old,” said audiologist Shelly Ash. “It’s always so moving.”Cochlear implant technology has accelerated over the years. Now the technology can even be linked via Bluetooth.Kids have different reactions to hearing sound for the first time.“When we first start out, we’re introducing very soft levels of electrical current,” said Shelly Ash. “It just sounds to her like 'beep, beep, beep.'”For A’Deja, she was neither happy or scared. She was simply... amazed. Her eyes widen and her jaw dropped. She realized what it was: sound. And she turned her head when her mother said those three magic words: I love you.” 1018

in Hong Kong.CCTV's sports channel said Tuesday that it had "decided to immediately halt" broadcasts of the basketball league's preseason matches in China after it expressed its "strong dissatisfaction" over NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's response to Daryl Morey's tweet. The broadcaster is also reviewing its wider relationship with the NBA.Tencent, the NBA's exclusive digital partner in China, also said it would suspend live streaming for NBA preseason games in China. The controversy began when Morey tweeted his support for the demonstrations in Hong Kong over the weekend. His post, which has since been deleted, included an image that read, "Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong." The former British colony now controlled by China has been rocked by months of political unrest. Those remarks led several Chinese businesses to suspend ties with the Rockets, throwing that team's relationship with the country into doubt. That backlash triggered an initial response from the NBA on Monday. In a statement, the organization said that it recognized that Morey's views "have deeply offended many of our friends and fans in China, which is regrettable."But that statement, too, invited more criticism — this time from Americans. US politicians accused the NBA of kowtowing to Beijing to protect its financial interests. On Monday, Silver himself waded into the fray. He reportedly spoke to 1394
