It’s a rift that some women feel when they go to the salon: women with short hair, simple cuts still end up paying more than men, even if the time it takes for the haircuts is the same.A new trend, though, aims to change that. Across the country, new gender-neutral salons are charging by the minute and not the gender.At Bee Sweet Salon giving unique cuts is nothing new, but how they price them is cutting edge."Our salon is gender-free, especially when it comes to pricing," said owner Dani Bee.Clients at the Bee Sweet Salon pay by the time spent in the chair, not by their gender."It's an arbitrary way to price a haircut," said Bee. On average, women pay about for a cut, while a man pays on average, according to The Beauty Association.Emily Hope Dobkin was tired of paying more for her haircuts than her husband was paying for his. She said the time they spend in the chair was the same. "The price would go up every year, and I was like maybe. I shouldn't be getting my haircut this often because I can't afford it," Dobkin said.It’s not just haircuts that are priced by gender. The Pink Tax has brought to light the extra money women pay for products such as razors, shampoo, clothes, dry cleaning and more."It allows us to see where things are gendered and where they don't need to be," said hair stylist Abrean Sophia Marie.Abrean believes it’s about making everyone feel included. Besides giving great cuts, both Bee and Abrean say equality and inclusion is just as important."I just hope companies and salons do more of this because it's so important,” Dobkin said. “And it's 2020; it's about time." 1633

Jared Lorenzen has died at the age of 38, family members confirmed to Matt Jones of Hey Kentucky!Lorenzen was the quarterback of the University of Kentucky football team and was signed by the New York Giants in 2004. He had openly struggled with his weight and had returned to Lexington to team up with the "Now Let's Get Fit" organization to help kids make healthy lifestyle choices.“I just want people to know there is something better out there that will make you feel better about yourself and going out and being out,” said Lorenzen.He was Mr. Kentucky Football 1998. He went to Fort Thomas Highlands High School where he also played basketball and baseball. As a junior, he passed for a Northern Kentucky-record 2,759 yards and 37 touchdowns in 13 games. He won state championship titles in 1996 and 1998 and also went to the Sweet 16 tournament with the boys' basketball team. He would often joke about his weight, but was making strides to get healthier.“I came out of the womb big as can be. I was a 13 pound baby,” said Lorenzen.In a 2017 interview with the Today Show, Lorenzen told anchors that he wanted to live long enough to see his daughter get married and his son play college football. Lorenzen had been in the hospital with several health ailments and was in the ICU. The family released a statement to Matt Jones reading , "It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jared Lorenzen, would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for all of your support and prayers over the past 6 days. We are deeply saddened to announced the passing of Jared today, July 3, 2019. Again, we appreciate all of the warm wishes and prayers, but as a family, we would request your respect and privacy. INDIANAPOLIS — More than 300 air traffic controllers work in Indianapolis and they are beginning to feel the pain of the partial government shutdown. The jets continue to fly and the controllers continue to make sure that there is no chaos in the skies — but there is a price. Air traffic controllers are trying to keep your flight safe, even as they do it without pay because of the government shutdown."We are working 6 days a week. Some are working 10 hours a day, that's across the country," said Marc Schneider, National Air Traffic Controllers Association president. "We are at a 30 year low in staffing for air traffic controllers nationwide. The school in Oklahoma City is shut down."According to Schneider, controllers were recently trained on new technology that allows them to text message pilots in the cockpit. This was supposed to roll out Friday and now isn't happening because of the shutdown.If it is not implemented by January 15, all the controllers will have to be retrained — at a high cost. "It's a stressful job to begin with. These are people's lives we are dealing with," Schneider said. "Everyone just got done paying for Christmas and now there is no money coming in. Those are things we have to worry about."Also at the airport, folks who work for the Transportation Security Administration are on the job, and not getting paid. They are represented by the American Federation of Government Employees, who handle 30,000 workers in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. That body is filing a lawsuit against the federal government."We're saying it's against the law to work employees without paying them. These are not slaves. It's against the law," said Arnold Scott of the American Federation of Government Employees. "The fair labor standards require federal employees be paid for the work that they perform."The hope is that the lawsuit will never get a hearing because the government will reopen. 1934
