CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating two violent incidents that occurred at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center in recent weeks.The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they try to find the people suspected in a stabbing incident on Sept. 25 and an assault on Oct. 2 that happened at the mall on 2015 Birch Rd.In the Sept. 25 incident, at around 6 p.m., two people were approached by a group of four people, and then “three of the subjects began assaulting one of the victims,” police said.Police said one victim was stabbed in the back of the leg and had their backpack stolen. The other victim was not hurt, but one of the assailants took their cell phone.According to police, the incident was captured on video and shared on social media. The suspects in this case were described by police as Black male juveniles.In the Oct. 2 incident, a person was with friends at the mall when he was approached by about eight juveniles. Police said, “One of the suspects then punched the victim and a second suspect stole the victim’s Boston Red Sox baseball hat. (CNS) - An inmate was hospitalized with severe injuries after being found unresponsive in his cell at the South Bay Detention Facility in Chula Vista, authorities said Thursday.Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies assigned to South Bay Detention Facility, 500 Third Ave., found the man inside his cell "with obvious signs of trauma," San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said.The man, whose age and name were not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Seiver said, adding that the victim was not expected to survive.The Sheriff's homicide unit responded and were investigating the circumstances leading up to the man's injuries. 716

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - A DUI/Driver's License checkpoint at one of Chula Vista's busiest intersections led to three arrests, police said.The Chula Vista Police Department said officers screened 751 vehicles at the checkpoint which was was conducted between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Palomar Street.Police said the three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition to the three arrests, police impounded nine vehicles and issued 21 citations for people driving without licenses or on suspended licenses. No other details were released.A total of 51 citations were issued for "various vehicle code violations," according to police."DUI/Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. (KGTV) — Aquatica San Diego and Chula Vista police are warning trespassers after ABC 10News obtained video showing people inside the closed waterpark riding skateboards on some of their attractions.The clip starts with individuals climbing over barbed wire fencing surrounding the theme park. The group is seen casually walking the grounds of the park then skateboarding on water slides, including the six-story funnel ride Tassie's Twister.The 19-second video appeared on the social media app TikTok on May 19 and has been viewed more than 1.1 million times.10News showed the video to Aquatica, who confirmed there have been trespassing incidents recently. The park added that they have notified police and trespassers will face consequences."While Aquatica is temporarily closed because of COVID-19, the park is monitored 24/7. Our security team has caught trespassers in the park and notified the Chula Vista Police Department. Citations have been issued because trespassing is a misdemeanor crime. (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Monday handed out dozens of pink slips to administrators as the district deals with a million budget shortfall for the next school year. The board agreed during a meeting in Chula Vista Saturday to release up to 87 employees. Not every employee who receives a pink slip will lose their job. In a written statement, the district said the employees “may be released or reassigned from their position.” Community forums on the matter will be held at the end of the month. In December, the San Diego County Office of Education appointed a fiscal advisor with power to stay and rescind any financial decision made by the troubled district.
