A new study has found that those who drink moderate amounts of alcohol or coffee lived longer than those who didn’t, reports the Chicago Tribune.The research was led by University of California neurologist Claudia Kawas who tracked 1,700 nonagenarians enrolled in the 90+ study, which began in 2003.According to researchers, those who drank roughly two glasses of beer or wine a day were 18 percent less likely to experience premature death.The findings mean that, according to the research, drinking alcohol increased longevity more than exercise.The study found that participants who exercised 15 to 45 minutes a day cut their risk of early death by 11 percent.And good news for coffee lovers. Participants who drank two cups of coffee a day also increased longevity by 10 percent.The study also found that people who were overweight in their 70s lived longer than normal or underweight people. 904

A Phoenix restaurant caught a woman posing as a high school cheer mom to pocket money.The employees at Fry Bread House were skeptical when a woman came in asking for donations.“She told us our manager had ordered us brownies and cookies for a donation,” said Chef Kris Harris. The woman said the money would go to the Xavier College Preparatory cheer squad.Fry Bread House employees called their owner. She spoke with the woman and quickly realized they were being scammed.The restaurant alerted Xavier officials, who had already received two other reports of this same behavior. “I guess she just looked like a normal woman trying to raise money for her kid,” Harris explained. “It kind of blows your mind. A Michigan hospital is facing a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by a nurse who says she was told not to care for a patient because of her race.Teoka Williams works as a Registered Nurse at Beaumont Health's campus in Dearborn. Her lawsuit alleges that while working on the unit on Oct. 2, she overheard a patient say she did not want a "Black B****" taking care of her.Williams claims she told the clinical manager about the comment and that clinical manager then talked to the patient, who told her she did not want Williams to care for her.The clinical manager then allegedly told the patient that she would "move" Williams and that the patient would not have to see her anymore.The clinical manager then told Williams she was not to go into the patient's room and if either patient in the room needed care a white nurse named Olivia was required to go into the room, according to the suitThe lawsuit alleges that there were times when the patients in the room needed care and Williams was forbidden from doing so because of her race.Williams' lawsuit contends that she told Human Resources about the incident and was told that patient requests are honored all the time and that the next time it happened, she would be taken off the assignment altogether.The lawsuit contends Beaumont violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.
