BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- During the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), China spent 3.26 trillion yuan on social security, an annual increase of 17.6 percent, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) told Xinhua Friday.Wang Jun, vice minister of the MOF, said in the 2006-2010 period, the social security expenditure from the central government stood at 1.4 trillion yuan (210.19 billion U.S. dollars), which was 2.1 times the expenditure in the previous five years.As the improvement of civil welfare is a crucial component of the harmonious society China is pursuing, financial authorities at all levels should continue to raise investments in social security when making the 2011 fiscal budget and plans for the 12th Five-Year Plan starting from 2011, Wang said.

Bilateral trade last year rose 2.1 percent to 17.72 billion dollars.China and Chile forged a comprehensive cooperative partnership in 2004.

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday voiced its support for the new UN resolutions on lifting major sanctions against Iraq, and called on all parties in the country to foster national reconciliation through political dialogue and consultation.The statement came as Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, was speaking at an open Security Council meeting on Iraq, which adopted three resolutions to terminate major sanctions against Iraq, lift the restrictions on the Iraqi civilian nuclear program and end the oil-for-food program."China welcomes the adoption by the Security Council of resolutions which lift the sanctions imposed according to Chapter 7 of the Charter regarding the mass destructive weapons, missiles and civilian nuclear activities, which conclude the oil-for-food program and provide for appropriate arrangements relating to the development fund for Iraq," Li said.Li Baodong (front), the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, speaks during a United Nations Security Council high level meeting on Iraq at the UN headquarters in New York, Dec. 15, 2010. LONDON, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday afternoon to discuss bilateral ties.The meeting was held at No. 10 Downing Street, official residence and office of the prime minister, and lasted about one hour.The development of Sino-British relations has kept a good momentum since Britain's coalition government took office. The new British government has continued to pursue a positive China policy, and bilateral relations have achieved a smooth transition and sustainable development.China and Britain have maintained close high-level contacts and deepened their strategic mutual trust.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (R) meets with British Prime Minister David Cameron in London, Britain, Jan. 10, 2011.
