NOGALES, Arizona — Military officials were on the U.S./Mexico border today to talk about adding security in preparation for the migrant caravan.Talking with army soldiers from the DeConcini and Mariposa port of entries, they say, they're taking Customs and Border Protection's lead. They say the Department of Defense has military units out here until December 15th. But that date is mission dependent."Engineering is engineering. Regardless of where we are in the world, whether we're training back at Ft. Hood, Texas, or whether we're in Tucson, Arizona, or Iraq or Afghanistan, we provide capability to whoever we're supporting. And in this case, we're supporting the Customs and Border Protection," said Lt. Col. Chad Caldwell, the 62nd Engineer Battalion commander. These soldiers are a part of the 5,000 troops near the country's southwest border to prepare for the expected arrival of the migrant caravan. Last week, they started placing razor wire above the border fence, a task that is not yet complete. And yesterday, the army helped close two lanes at the DeConcini port of entry."It has been a challenge. It is not a standard mission-set to be trained for back in Ft. Hood, but as Army engineers, our job is to solve difficult problems for whoever we're supporting," said Caldwell."Weld the pickets up to the fence, run the c-wire with barbed-wire underneath it, and strap it to it. Our role is to support the CBP and do whatever they ask us to do," said Sgt. Douglas Hughes, the Platoon Sgt. for the 104th Engineer Construction Company. There is no official word, yet, if they plan on keeping these reinforcements in place after the caravan has arrived, if it does. CBP says there's a good chance the migrant caravan will arrive in about a week. 1764
NEW CASTLE, Del. – Joe Biden laid out the third tier of his “Build Back Better” economic policy plan during a speech on Tuesday. The speech in New Castle, Delaware, focused on the presumptive Democratic nominee’s plan to support working families, childcare and educators.Watch Biden's speech below:The plan will create around 3 million new jobs in the caregiving and education industries, and will cost about 5 billion over 10 years, according to the campaign. Biden says the plan will be paid for by rolling back tax breaks for real estate investors with incomes over 0,000, as well as taking steps to increase tax compliance for high-income earners. The campaign announced proposals to eliminate the waiting list for home and community care under Medicaid, provide fresh funding to states and groups that explore alternatives to institutional care, and add 150,000 new community health workers. As for childcare, the former vice president is proposing a bailout for childcare centers, which have been hit hard by the pandemic. He’s also proposing national pre-K for all children ages 3 and 4.This economic speech is the third of four Biden is giving before the Democratic National Convention is held in Milwaukee in August. 1236

None of President Donald Trump's senior White House officials are black.Only a handful of his senior staff are of Latino, Asian or Arab descent, according to a CNN review of 48 senior White House officials. Instead, the President is being advised by a senior White House staff that is overwhelmingly white. The lack of diversity in Trump's West Wing comes back into focus as Trump's longtime adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman, the only African-American to serve in a senior role in Trump's White House,?re-emerged into the public arena to promote her new book. In the eight months since Manigault Newman was fired, Trump has yet to appoint a single African-American to a senior White House role as either an assistant or a deputy assistant to the President.Manigault Newman was the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison and an assistant to the President for nearly a year until her firing last December. At the time, she was the only African-American in a senior White House role and earning the top White House staff salary of nearly 0,000."I was the only African-American at the table. If I left, which I did, when I left, there has been no new appointment of an African-American assistant to the President, which means that people are making decisions about us, without us," Manigault Newman said Sunday in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press." 1380

NEW YORK (AP) — A popular online spoof of the children's favorite "Goodnight Moon," reworked for the coronavirus, will be published by Penguin Random House this fall. The Penguin imprint Philomel Books announced Monday that "Good Morning Zoom" is scheduled for Oct. 6. It's written by Lindsay Rechler and illustrated by June Park. Currently self-published, "Good Morning Zoom" takes Margaret Wise Brown's beloved bedtime story and turns it into a narrative about Zoom, bread baking, homeschooling, and other familiar parts of life during the pandemic. 559
