SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Blood Bank will test all blood donations for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from now through the end of July.The blood bank says it will use those test results to help identify people who can donate convalescent plasma. Donors who test positive for antibodies will be able to donate COVID-19 convalescent plasma the next time they donate.The plasma can then be used to treat coronavirus patients.The test will be able to detect if a person's immune system has developed COVID-19 antibodies, whether or not the person showed symptoms. It will not detect if a person has an active infection or recent exposure to someone who is infected.To donate, donors must be at least 17-years-old, weigh 114 pounds, and be in overall good health. The blood bank says the test is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. All reactive and nonreactive results will be reported to the California Department of Public Health. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego History Center is commemorating a landmark moment in the gay rights movement: the Stonewall uprising in New York. Fifty years ago, a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village sparked a violent confrontation between law enforcement and gay rights activists. Although the riots happened on the other side of the country, the West Coast had a role in fighting for change. “If nothing else, it is a marker in historical time with a clearly defined before and after,” said Dr. Lillian Faderman. Faderman said Stonewall was “not the first time that gay people fought back.” She curated an exhibit called LGBTQ San Diego: Stories and Struggles, tracing the local groups that advocated for LGBTQ rights. The Mattachine Society and Daughters of Bilitis both advocated for gay rights in the 1950s and 60s. Faderman’s exhibit highlights their work, and that of individuals who called for change. The exhibit will be open at the San Diego History Center until next year. 1022

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Trump campaign is asking for a recount in Wisconsin and there could be other recounts before this election is over. But recounts rarely flip the result of an election.From 2009 to 2019, there were 5,778 statewide general elections, according to the non-partisan group FairVote. In that span there were 31 completed recounts.Only three of the 31 recounts flipped the outcome of the race, FairVote found. Those recounts were a Washington governor’s race in 2004, an auditor’s race in Vermont in 2006, and a 2008 race in Minnesota that made Al Franken a U.S. Senator.Deb Otis, a senior research analyst with FairVote, said in all three of these cases, the original margin heading into the recount was razor thin: less than .05 percent.“We generally see a shift in votes during recounts on the order of a few hundred votes or maybe 1000 votes,” said Otis. “The margin in Wisconsin right now is around 20,000 votes. We have not seen a statewide recount shift votes anywhere near 20,000.”The most memorable recount was in Florida in 2000, in the race between George W. Bush and Al Gore. That recount shifted the margin by 1,247 votes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three years ago Former San Francisco 49er’s quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the National Anthem. It started during the 2016 preseason games. The first three games he sat on the bench and then in a game against the San Diego Chargers, he took his first knee during the National Anthem. On Wednesday, Kaepernick recognized the three year anniversary by taking to his Twitter account saying, “Today marks the three year anniversary of the first time I protested systemic oppression. I continue to work and stand with the people in our fight for liberation.” In October 2017, Kaepernick filed a Collusion Grievance against the NFL and team owners In February 2018, they settled the case.
