SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fans of Hello Kitty can catch the character's popular, pink cafe rolling through the North County and South Bay in the next month for the first time. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will be rolling through Carlsbad on Jan. 12 at The Shoppes at Carlsbad from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fans can catch the colorful cat near Regal Cinemas and Luna Grill.On Feb. 2, the truck is also scheduled to bring its delicious treats and trinkets to Chula Vista at the Otay Ranch Town Center.RELATED: San Diego Restaurant Week 2019: Over 180 restaurants taking partFans of the truck can grab a bite of tasty goodies, including a giant Hello Kitty cookie, macaroon set, and lunchbox with confetti popcorn. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From big box stores to locally based companies, a number of businesses in San Diego County are significantly scaling up their workforces to meet the demand caused by the coronavirus.Walmart, the nation’s largest employer, plans to hire 150,000 associates by May, including 6,200 in California. The company has boosted pay and bonuses, raising e-commerce employee wages by an hour as online orders surge. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four people who were arrested during a border demonstration in 2018 celebrated a not guilty verdict Monday.Demonstrators gathered downtown Monday to support two clergy members and two female Army combat veterans who were arrested during the "Love Knows No Borders" event in December 2018. Faith leaders at the U.S.-Mexico border near Friendship Park and some 400 people were calling for an end to detaining and deporting immigrants and showing support for asylum seekers.The four arrested argued they were exercising their religious freedom and first amendment right to assemble and speak out against injustice. Combat veteran Brittany Ramos Debarros, who's standing trial, spoke to 10News following the verdict. "Took an oath to protect this constitution and I take that seriously. And what I see all around me is a disregard for what's right. A disregard for people's rights, including the right to protest peacefully on our own land, the land I supposedly defended," Debarros said.But federal agents showed video of the demonstration, arguing there were numerous no trespassing signs and they made numerous demands and warnings to stay out of the restricted areas or face arrest.One demonstrator, who was not in court Monday, was arrested for assaulting an officer at the rally. 1308

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighters on alert after seeing the latest Wildland Fire Potential Outlook maps released by the National Interagency Fire Center. The maps show San Diego with an above average wildfire potential that increases from June through August and starts to wane slightly in September.Cal Fire Public Information Officer Thomas Shoots said the outlook focuses on three things; "We're dealing with fuel, weather and topography." Shoots said the agency can't do anything about the topography or weather, but every neighbor can do their part reducing fuel, especially around their home.RELATED: How to prepare defensible space around your homeShoots acknowledged the winter weather gave San Diego County a reprieve fire-wise, but it posed a new problem: new growth that's already drying out."A grass fire can run a lot faster and spread faster which means our resources are spread out quicker, and then that means it has the heat and momentum to build up to the bigger fuels," Shoots said.Just down the road, a neighbor had landscapers pruning her yard."I think it's very important to have this done...helps the whole neighborhood," said the woman named Gene.Cal Fire said the best time to get the landscaping work done is before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.Last week, neighbors in Rancho Santa Fe saw the danger become a reality when Cal Fire said a landscaping crew using the lawn mower sparked a 3-acre fire near Fairbanks Ranch."It's starting to get to the point where it's too late; we need you to clear while we have the chance," Shoots said, referring to hot weather making these incidents more likely."We need all the help we can get," he said."Definitely, they've got a lot of work ahead of them, I think," Gene said.Cal Fire reported this year to June 16th, there have been 1,386 fires, burning 11,954 acres across the state. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighting cameras are blanketing California, shattering its goal of installing 650 cameras across California by 2022, thanks to the efforts of a UC San Diego professor and his team.The camera system, called ALERTWildfire, came from a need to confirm the ignition of a fire, and coordinate assets to be the most efficient and safe for the community.Geology Professor Neal Driscoll at UC San Diego is the Co-Director of ALERTWildfire and said just a couple of years ago it was a slow process confirming a fire sparked in the county."We’d have to send an engine to a mountaintop or launch an aircraft to verify ignition," Driscoll said.That wasted valuable time. ALERTWildfire allows fire command centers to find and assess a blaze with a few clicks on a computer.Cal Fire Captain Thomas Shoots said they look for key information from the cameras, "really just trying to hone in on where this fire is, what its potential is and who might need to be evacuated."The system launched in 2017 and now San Diego has 35 cameras across the county.The cameras pan, tilt and zoom on command and have a time-lapse function."The technology isn’t just good situational awareness, it’s also using that data and that information in real-time to evacuate people and save some more lives," Shoots said.Driscoll said they are continuing to grow the program, "locally I think we’ll cap out at 45-50."Shoots said they're working to grow to more than 1,000 cameras across the state by 2022 and Driscoll hopes to expand to other states like Colorado and Idaho.Driscoll advises the public to get familiar with the website, so in case of an emergency, you can be aware of your surroundings and evacuate safely.Driscoll also advised the public to RAP: Reduce risk, Activate your alerts, and Practice your plan.
