BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Friday welcomed ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the European Union (EU) anti-dumping duties on Chinese screws and bolts were discriminatory and are in violation of global commerce rules.For a long time, the EU has been requiring Chinese exporters to prove they meet with the "single duty" requirements when they are responding to anti-dumping cases, bringing a heavy burden and unfair treatment to Chinese companies, said an official with the MOC.In particular the WTO ruled the EU's single duty requirements and practices are discriminatory and violated WTO rules.China urged the EU to respect the WTO ruling and rid itself of codes or practices that go against WTO rules and treat Chinese exporters fairly to ensure normal trade between China and the EU, the official said.At the beginning of 2009, the EU decided to impose anti-dumping duties of up to 87 percent for the next five years on fasteners imported from China.The WTO set up an expert panel on Oct. 23, 2009 after China initiated the WTO case on July 31, 2009, saying anti-dumping measures taken by the EU against the import of Chinese steel fasteners violated WTO trade rules.

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Li Keqiang's three-nation visit to Europe has expressed China's confidence, boosted mutual trust, expanded cooperation and deepened mutual understanding, Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said Thursday.Li returned to Beijing on Thursday afternoon after making visits to Spain, Germany and Britain at the invitations of their governments.Fu said that the vice premier's visits took place as the deep-seated impact of the international financial crisis remains unabated, the global economic recovery still faces uncertainties, and as Europe is in a tough fight against sovereignty debt crises.The visits were a great success and have been a solid start for the development of China's relations with Europe in 2011, Fu said.ENHANCED MUTUAL UNDERSTANDINGAccording to the vice foreign minister, Li said during his visit that China is a strategic partner of the three nations, and shares with them extensive common interests. BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A well-known economist said Monday that the biggest problem in China is not inflation, but shifting its economic structure to maintain sustainable growth."The biggest challenge faced by China is economic restructuring in order to shift the economy to a more balanced way that will provide sustainable economic growth," Stephen Roach, former chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia, told Xinhua."In the post-crisis environment, the shift means to build a consumer-led economy, and that is the overriding challenge in China," said Roach, who currently serves as non-executive chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia.Residents' incomes in China remain at a low level. "People's incomes are only 42 percent of the GDP, whereas in the US the rate is 86 percent. So the government should raise the income of the citizens, especially when China wants to stimulate domestic private consumption," said Roach."Of course, that does not mean the Chinese government should ignore the risk of higher inflation," he said.Official data showed that China's October Consumer Price Index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, rose to a 25-month high at 4.4 percent."There is a certain amount of momentum to inflation, so it's likely to be the a problem over the next 12 months. If the government acts quickly, it will be able to limit the problem, or else China could be facing this problem in 2012 as well," said Roach.Roach suggested China should take broad and comprehensive approaches in dealing with inflation, and the medium-term goal of the shifted economic structure need to be maintained."The government has to demonstrate its resolve in dealing with inflation, and property market assets. It's a challenge, but I think the government is up to the challenge," according to Roach.
