OKALOOSA ISLAND, Fla. — A car rolled into a Florida swimming pool on Tuesday with a father and daughter inside.According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the mother thought she put the car in park when she ran back into the apartment to grab money."Apparently, it didn't go all the way into park," OCSO said.Her husband and daughter were in the car when it went into the pool at their Okaloosa Island apartment. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old girl told Oceanside Police a man, possibly homeless, tried to kidnap her Thursday morning as she walked to El Camino High School. The girl was walking east on Mesa Drive near Vanilla Way at 7:20 a.m. and passed the man heading the opposite direction. After she walked by, the man turned and grabbed her in a bear hug, police said. The man struggled with the girl, who was able to break free when he fell to the ground, according to investigators. The girl arrived at school and notified security about the incident. Oceanside Police units and a drone were deployed to find the man but were not successful. The girl described the man as dirty or "possibly homeless" according to police, white, in his 50s, 5’9 inches tall, and very thin. He was wearing a tan pullover sweatshirt with a zipper and baggy black jeans. Police said the man may be bald on top of his head with short light brown hair on the sides. He also had a scab on the right side of his neck, the girl reported. Oceanside officers are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Family Protection Unit at 760-435-4690. 1144

OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Two cars overturned into an embankment off Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Sunday, but the people inside both vehicles were able to escape without serious injuries.A silver car lost control and sideswiped another car on northbound I-5 past Las Pulgas Road shortly after 11 a.m., California Highway Patrol dispatchers were told.Several drivers pulled over to help, and the people inside both cars were able to get out before CHP officers and fire personnel got to the scene, according to a CHP incident log.At least one person was hurt, but the injuries were described as minor. 609

(KGTV) - A North County non-profit is helping homeless veterans get back on their feet and transition from military to civilian life.Wounded Warrior Homes runs three houses in Oceanside, Vista and Escondido.They help homeless veterans with "invisible" wounds like PTSD or brain injuries.Co-Founder Mia Roseberry says getting the vets into a safe, reliable home is often the most important step towards recovery."When you have a safe place to sleep, and you know you’re going to be safe when you open your eyes, and you’re going to be able to eat and have a place to take a shower and you’re safe, then you can go, "Oh, what’s next?'" says Co-Founder Mia Roseberry.According to the latest Point in Time count of the homeless, there are approximately 1,100 homeless veterans in San Diego County.Army Veteran Russ Hudson was one of them. After serving from 2009 to 2013, he suffered from PTSD. Hudson struggled with drug addiction and was in and out of shelters and assistance homes."I was in a dark place," he says. "I was stressed out, I wasn't able to sleep at night." trouble sleeping.Now, he's found stability with Wounded Warrior Homes. He's begun work training service dogs for other veterans dealing with PTSD."I love animals," Hudson says. "I’m from Mississippi, I grew up on a farm, I love dogs, and I was like, hey I’ll give it a try."He's the kind of success story that Wounded Warrior Homes helps create. Roseberry says housing a few veterans in each home helps keep them connected to the community."If you live in your own place, like in a one bedroom apartment, no one really knows you’re isolating yourself," she says. "With this, your roommates will ask why they didn’t see you at breakfast, or at dinner or during the day. They will call each other on it and drag each other out of the room."Volunteers help refurbish the homes and the organization offers weekly check-ins for the veterans.
