SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As temperatures hit highs across the county's eastern portion, officials are taking annual precautions to close several popular hiking areas.Six county parks will be closed throughout August, including El Capitan Preserve near Lakeside, Hellhole Canyon Preserve in Valley Center, Mt. Gower Preserve near Ramona, Wilderness Gardens in Pala, Agua Caliente Regional Park in Anza Borrego, and Vallecito County Park near Julian.Agua Caliente Regional Park and Vallecito County Park are closed all summer until Labor Day weekend.The closure also gives park staff the chance to perform maintenance and other upgrades and restoration projects.For hiking and park areas that remain open all summer, county Parks and Recreation officials encourage visitors to always hike with others, leave pets at home on difficult hikes, take plenty of water and food, and dress appropriately for the activity. 913

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Concerns continue to grow after the Del Mar coastline collapses three times in a matter of weeks.Large parts of the cliffs, between 8th and 11th streets, have come tumbling down to the shore. “Parts of the cliffs are still unstable but it’s difficult to tell when exactly that failure, or additional failures, may occur,” says Adam Young.Young is a Project Scientist with Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He says the timing of the collapses is unusual.“We see this activity in the winter time when we have a lot of rain. you can get a lot of land sliding but to have something in the summer time is quite unusual.”Scripps is continuing to monitor the coastline. In a statement from Del Mar City Councilman Terry Sinnott it says in part:“First, we working with SANDAG on a project called Del Mar Bluff #4 that will be built in early 2019 that will improve the drainage coming off the developed properties to the East. Second, there is a long-term solution which is to move the train tracks off the bluffs."Young also advises beach goers to be aware of their surroundings near the cliffs and to adhere to signs that say do not enter.Following a recent bluff collapse, the Del Mar bluffs have been three dimensionally mapped. His work: organizing events, budgets and other behind the scenes tasks. His goal, to build up a more inclusive church.Bianco has been married to his husband for 10 years last month, and once he started at St. John, so did the attacks."They've threatened me from shooting me down across the street, to throwing Molotov cocktails into the church," Bianco said.The hate groups sent emails equating him to a pedophile and threatening him. His tires were slashed, fire thrown at the church doors, the office broken into and spray painted with a gay slur."They're no different from organized crime or a terrorist group. They will continue until they get their way," Bianco said their goal was to force him out. "I'm convinced that the gospel is on my side, and they can spew their hate, but I'm not going to allow them to make me hate them back," Bianco said.Last week his personal information including photos of his family and his home address was published on a conservative Catholic website. Bianco said he saw someone in their yard in the middle of the night  watching the house.Since the threats, he's added security to his home and filed police reports.He realized it was all too much, "My life and those of my family are more important than any job."Bianco addressed the packed church at Sunday night's mass, "when hate rages like a fire, love rains down, and I feel it from so many of you in this room."Bianco told 10News he believes there is more good in the world than bad, explaining he's received encouraging notes from people all over the world.After his speech, the church erupted, "It made me so happy that everybody stood there and clapped for the longest ovation I've ever heard in a church in my life. Letting him know that we love you, we care about you and you're going to be missed," Parishioner Berena Pe?a said.She attended the church a decade prior and stopped coming because she didn't feel welcome as a lesbian. Her friend convinced her to try again two years ago. She said she could feel the difference, and it woke her up.Bianco said this is not the end, and he will keep fighting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As cities nationwide remove landmarks named after Confederate or racially-charged figures, an online petition is demanding San Diego do the same at Mount Hope Cemetery.A Change.org petition is asking Mayor Kevin Faulconer to remove a memorial to Confederate soldiers at Mount Hope Cemetery."Why does the City of San Diego expect black citizens, literal descendants of the very people the monument celebrates enslaving, oppressing, and terrorizing, to maintain such a horrific monument?" the petition says.The petition has nearly 900 or 1,000 requested signatures.The monument was erected in 1948 on a plot owned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, who supporters call such markers, testaments to history.Both Union and Confederate soldiers are buried in the cemetery.10news found the monument stone heavily damaged, with pieces scattered around the monument. Sources tell us the vandalism is a recent and ongoing issue.The monument isn't the only one in San Diego that has been subject to Change.org efforts. In 2017, the city removed a marker from Horton Plaza Park that commemorated the Jefferson Davis Highway, named for the Confederate leader. Fast forward to Wednesday, the city removed another marker from the park, this time commemorating Robert E. Lee Highway."Robert E. Lee Highway marker is gone.
