OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nichols Elementary School in Oceanside briefly went on lockdown Monday afternoon after reports of a suspicious person on the playground. The lockdown was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at the school located on the 4200 block of Old Grove Road. According to police, a school employee was out with the children on the playground when she saw an unknown man on the premises. The woman called police and took the students inside, prompting the 25-minute precautionary lockdown. Police responded and searched the area, but were unable to find anyone, at which point the school was taken off lockdown. 650

(KGTV) - A message threatening African-Americans was found in a men’s bathroom at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, college police said Friday.The discovery was made Thursday afternoon in a stall of the restroom on the second floor of the Oceanside campus library, according to police. The exact nature of the threat was not released.College Police, Oceanside Police and the FBI received the report of a hate crime, officials said. The subject of the crime is unknown.Police are asking for anyone with information to call 760-795-6640. "I have no idea. I’ve had children, administrators, support staff, just teachers in general."For the last eight days, Troy Frieling has shuttled people to and from the Capitol from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. He picks them up at their cars parked in neighborhoods a few miles away and drops them off just a few steps from the rally.Frieling is a teacher himself and so is his wife."Honestly I wanted to be able to serve the teachers," Frieling said. "I just didn’t feel like my time standing in line up there was going to help anything."He said he has picked up some of the same people day after day.A ride in Frieling's truck is completely free."They’ve asked me, 'Do you want donations?' and I’m like, 'No, it wouldn’t be a free ride if you gave me donations,'" he saidHe said he has found a few dollars left behind in his truck. The only thing he asks of his passengers is they sign a poster in his car.
