Beef burgers, burritos and other enduring student dishes are off the menu at a London university -- in order to help the fight against the climate crisis.Goldsmiths University in London will be scrapping all beef products from its campus, the institution's new chief has announced, as it seeks to become carbon neutral by 2025.The move takes effect from September, when the new academic year begins, and will affect all canteens, cafes and food outlets on the university's grounds.Students will also be handed a 10p (12 cents) levy on bottled water and single use plastic cups in an attempt to discourage their use, with the money raised going towards a "green student initiative fund.""Declaring a climate emergency cannot be empty words," the university's warden Frances Corner said in 800

As the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted amid fears of the coronavirus outbreak, President Donald Trump appeared to be frustrated with the outbreak in a series of morning tweets.Moments after the Dow fell 7 percent and triggered an emergency circuit breaker that halted trading; Trump equated coronavirus to the common flu."So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!" Trump tweeted.According to the CDC, there were between 20,000 ad 52,000 deaths from the flu between 2019 and 2020. As nearly 450 Pier 1 locations are set to close in the coming year, the company announced it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Of the 450 locations set to close, 400 of them have either recently closed or started liquidating stock. In addition to the store closings, the company will shutter two distribution centers. The moves come during a rough time for brick and mortar retailers, as malls and shopping centers throughout the United States become more barren. Pier 1 said it is also in the process of securing a buyer for the company over the next six weeks. “In recent months, we have taken significant steps forward in our business transformation and cost-reduction initiatives," CEO Robert Riesbeck said. "We have worked to establish an appropriately sized and profitable store footprint, operating structure and merchandise assortment that will enable Pier 1 to better serve our customers across store and online channels. "Today’s actions are intended to provide Pier 1 with additional time and financial flexibility as we now work to unlock additional value for our stakeholders through a sale of the Company. We are moving ahead in this process with the support of our lenders and are pleased with the initial interest as we engage in discussions with potential buyers.” 1296

Buying a home has been part of the American dream for as long as we can remember, but as home prices rise and competition grows, that dream can be difficult to make a reality. However, things might be changing as new homes are being built specifically for renters, like Carole Goemans. Goemans made the decision to move back to Colorado from San Antonio to be close to family. “We lived there for 14 years and then my husband passed 2 and a half years ago and we have to make decisions,” said Goemans. “Colorado has changed a lot. I’ve lived here for many, many years, since I was 5 years old and I taught for 38 years. At that time, homes were a lot cheaper.”Enter Avilla Homes, a community full of homes built for renters, not for home buyers. "These are renters by choice," said Reed Ruck with Avilla. Ruck says folks like Goemans have all of the benefits of owning a house without the mortgage."Helping individuals find obtainable housing and not as expensive as a mortgage, but still provides a single family feel and living space," said Ruck. The struggle to afford a home is growing in America, especially in a fast growing state like Colorado where the average rent is ,300 a month, according to SmartAsset. When it comes to the monthly rent for Avilla Homes, Ruck says you can expect to pay slightly less or comparable to a mortgage in the same area.In Colorado, the average home costs 6,000, making a mortgage around ,500 a month, SmartAsset says. For someone like Goemans, who isn't in the market to buy a home, communities like Avilla provide the chance to live the American dream.“It’s luxury without a lot of bucks and that’s hard to find,” said Goemans. “As long as I can stay vertical and keep smiling, this is it.”Ruck says these communities are a growing trend across the country and there's another one in Phoenix. 1849

Auslaut. Erysipelas. Bougainvillea. Pendeloque. We'd challenge you to have even heard of some of the words, let alone spell them. But they're just some of the words that the eight winners of the Scripps National Spelling Bee conquered late Thursday to be 266
