SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A judge decided Friday to place a sexually violent predator in the East County community of Boulevard. Michael Joseph Martinez, 64 has multiple previous convictions including child molestation and lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under 14, according to County Supervisor Dianne Jacob’s office.The judge added Friday that the sheriff’s department will be extra vigilant and security will be heightened.The judge decided to place Martinez at the Department of State Hospitals recommended location of 2135 McCain Valley Road. The schools closest to the address include Clover Flats Elementary School and Jacumba Elementary School, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.A mother of one of the victims from 25 years ago spoke at the hearing saying, “I know that you can’t change the order and I’m glad that there’s going to be very strict ordering, but I hope this doesn’t happen to another child or family.”RELATED: Dianne Jacob slams proposed placement of predatorJacob said the placement would put public safety at risk. She adds that several sexually violent predators have been placed in East County in recent years and in some cases, the convicts ended up violating the conditions of their placement.In a letter to Judge David M. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was stabbed to death outside a Pacific Beach 7-Eleven store late Friday after an argument with another man.The man was stabbed moments after he walked out of the convenience store at about 1 a.m. Saturday, according to San Diego Police. The victim, a 40- to 50-year-old man, got into an argument with another man outside the store before he was stabbed in the upper torso.The suspect, a black male in his 20s or 30s and dressed in a black shirt and dark jeans, fled the scene with a skateboard, police say.San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics performed life-saving measures upon arrival but the victim was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. They have not been identified.A portion of Mission Blvd. at Grand Ave. was closed until about 6:30 a.m. to investigate. Police have been in contact with local businesses to gather evidence and possibly surveillance video that may have captured the incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A gunman is on the loose after a Thursday morning shooting at Barrio Logan’s Chicano Park left a 19-year-old injured.San Diego police were called to the 2000 block of National Avenue, off Interstate 5, at around 1 a.m. in response to reports of dozens of shots fired.Details on what prompted the gunfire were unclear, but police confirmed a 19-year-old person was struck. The victim was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment.The victim’s condition is unknown.Police are searching for a Hispanic man in his 20s in connection with the shooting. They believe the gunman fled in a dark gray or silver car.About an hour later, as police were investigating the shooting, someone in the car matching a description of the getaway vehicle fired shots while on southbound I-5 towards officers at the shooting scene.No one was hurt in that gunfire. 878
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge ruled Wednesday that a Navy commander will face a third trial on charges he tried to rape a junior officer in her home.John Michael Neuhart II asked the judge to dismiss all charges after a second jury was unable to reach a verdict.The judge dismissed charges of assault with intent to commit rape during burglary, burglary and resisting or delaying a peace officer.RELATED: Mistrial declared for former Navy commander accused of rapeThe judge added that prosecutors can proceed with a third trial in January on charges of attempted forcible rape and assault with intent to commit rape.Neuhart now faces six years behind bars and lifetime sex offender registration if found guilty. Neuhart had previously been facing life in prison.In the two trials combined, 21 out of 24 jurors voted to convict Neuhart.
