SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The body of a 14-year-old boy was found near railroad tracks by a maintenance crew in the Bay Ho neighborhood, sheriff's officials said.At about 2:50 a.m. Saturday, the crew discovered someone who appeared to be struck by a train in the area of 6000 Santa Fe St., according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department homicide unit. After an investigation at the scene by the sheriff's Railroad Enforcement Team, the homicide unit took over the case, Seiver said. The boy has been identified and his next of kin notified, but his name is being withheld because it may jeopardize the investigation, the lieutenant said. The county Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the boy's death, Seiver said.Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's homicide unit at 858-285-6330 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 929

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council rejected an emergency ordinance Tuesday that would have banned motorized scooters on boardwalks in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay and La Jolla.  State law already bans motorized scooters from sidewalks but doesn't mention boardwalks.   The vehicles have become increasingly common in San Diego since they were introduced in February by scooter-sharing companies Bird and LimeBike. Improper usage and excessive speeding has led to injuries, especially where scooters are in close proximity to pedestrians, prompting Councilwoman Lorie 622

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- San Diego Gas & Electric residential customers will see their electricity bills reduced by .28 in both August and September thanks to a climate credit program.Designed to fight climate change, the California Climate Credit will come from a state program that requires power plants, natural gas providers and other large industries that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits. The credit on customers' bills is their share of the payments from the state's program."This bill credit provides some financial relief at a critical time when many people need it due to the COVID-19 economic crisis and summer weather driving up energy use," said Scott Crider, SDG&E's vice president of customer services.Originally, the credit was scheduled to appear on customer bills in April and October. To help reduce bill spikes in the summer, when energy usage typically goes up along with the temperature, SDG&E successfully petitioned the California Public Utilities Commission to change the timing of the credit to August and September -- the months when air conditioning use typically peaks. There is no action required to receive the credit. All residential customers, including community choice aggregation customers, will automatically receive this credit from SDG&E on their August and September billing cycles.Residential customers with natural gas service received the natural gas portion of the California Climate Credit -- .11 -- in April. In 2021, the electric and gas credit will follow the same schedule as this year. 1579

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - People who visited the Lucky Lady Casino in San Diego on weekends over a six-month period ending in late September may have been exposed to tuberculosis, county health officials reported Tuesday. The Health and Human Services Agency is working with the casino to inform patrons and staff who may have been exposed between Feb. 23 and Sept. 30, said county spokesman Jose A. Alvarez.HHSA will provide testing at no cost to patrons who were potentially exposed, Alvarez said. Testing will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 9 at the casino at 5526 El Cajon Blvd., he said.People who visited the casino are encouraged to contact their doctor or county TB Control if they cannot get tested on Dec. 8 or 9, Alvarez said.Beginning Tuesday, testing is also being offered to casino staff at no cost by county Occupational Health, according to HHSA officials, who noted it can take eight to 10 weeks after exposure for someone to test positive for TB.Those wanting more information may call Lucky Lady Casino at (619) 287- 6690 or the county TB Control Program (619) 692-8621.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer, said most people who are exposed do not become infected. However, testing is recommended because initial infection usually has no symptoms, she said.Tuberculosis is transmitted from person-to-person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infectious individual. Symptoms include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. The number of annual TB cases in San Diego County has decreased since the early 1990s, Alvarez said, with 258 cases reported in 2016, 237 in 2017 and 163 cases so far in 2018. 1691
