(KGTV) - The FBI and Escondido Police asked Thursday for the public’s help to find three men suspected of robbing a North County bank.The takeover-style robbery happened just before 10 a.m. on May 23, according to FBI Special Agent Davene Butler.The group backed an SUV against the front doors of the San Diego County Credit Union, 1875 S. Centre City Parkway, and went inside the bank.Investigators said the men were wearing masks and displayed handguns, ordering employees to lie on the ground, the FBI reported. Two of the men pointed their guns at different employees and demanded access to the vault. Once inside the vault, the men used trash cans to collect cash before leaving the area.The men drove south in a 1980s Chevrolet Suburban, which had been reported stolen earlier in the week.Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego FBI at 858-320-1800 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.A reward of ,000 is available for tips leading to an arrest. 1002

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - The North County finally has its own comedy club. The Grand Comedy Club opened on Grand Avenue in Escondido late in 2019 and reports growing crowds over its first 10 weeks. "I think people need a good laugh, nowadays. It's really great to see people leaving here happy and telling their friends, and their friends refer their friends. It's great to bring something back to my hometown that the locals really dig and have fun at," said owner Adam Wasserman.Wasserman is a property manager who has performed as a part-time stand up comedian for 11 years. He began thinking of starting his own club, and wanted it to be in Escondido. "You had to go downtown or La Jolla to go to shows. It's a long way to go and and parking and everything. I always thought 'Why was there never a club here in North County?'" Wasserman said.The headliners are typically brought in from Los Angeles, while many of the supporting acts are comedians from San Diego. Wasserman says they're seeing ticket sales from across North County. "We have several nice restaurants, but after you have dinner, that's it. There's nowhere to go," said Escondido resident Jacqueline Lawhorn. "At least now you can come here and enjoy a night of comedy."The opening of the Grand Comedy Club is just the latest step in Escondido's attempt to revitalize its downtown area and make it into more of destination spot. The hope is to give locals an option to spend their money closer to home, and to draw people from neighboring cities into Escondido businesses."You'd have to go to La Jolla or Orange County or whatever," said attendee Gary Arant, who has already gone to several shows at the club. (KGTV)- School leaders in a north county school district are trying to figure out how to address a legal petition filed by their teachers' union.The San Dieguito Union High School District Board of Trustees held an emergency closed-door meeting Tuesday at Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach.A few dozen students and some parents gathered outside the school to protest the district's plan to return to in-person instruction in January."Our teachers have taught us to stand up for what's right, and we see that the board is not listening to their needs, their concerns, they're putting their lives at risk, so we are here to support our teachers," said student Andrea Gately.Parent Julie Bronstein said distance learning is not ideal, but she doesn't think it's safe for kids to return when the virus is surging."Why can't we just wait a bit more, get ourselves out of the danger zone, get beyond the surge, make sure teachers are able to be vaccinated to the extent possible, and then reopen in a grander fashion," said Bronstein.Late last Tuesday night, the San Dieguito Union High School District Board of Trustees voted to give students the option to return to school one day a week on January 4th, then five days a week for in-person instruction on January 27th.Parents like Jane Woltman say students should have returned to class months ago."When they asked if kids wanted to go back full time in October, 80% of those parents said yes, yet we didn't go back then. We weren't in the purple tier then," said Woltman.Woltman has two kids at La Costa Canyon High School."I just think the social well being of kids is diminishing. Kids are losing engagement, and basically, this is a teaching model that was not intended to be long term," said Woltman.Friday, the California Teachers Association filed a legal petition on behalf of the local teachers' union to block the January return.Duncan Brown is a counselor at Diegueno Middle School and Oak Crest Middle School. He's also the president of the San Dieguito Faculty Association. He says the district's plan violates the governor's regional stay at home order."It goes against CDC guidelines, it goes against CDPH rules, most districts have reconsidered reopening plans, but San Dieguito continues to move forward," said Brown.Under the state's health mandate, schools that were already open for in-person instruction were allowed to stay open when the county fell back into the purple tier. The union is challenging the district's definition of what is considered an open school."All the instruction is done through small cohorts, and we believe the intent of the reopening plan was if grades were going through a reopening. For example, 9th and 10th grade were invited back, then under those kinds of understandings, 11th and 12th graders would be able to continue the reopening as well," said Brown.Parents who believe kids should be back in school say the union is just delaying things."I just think it's a stall tactic, and the union doesn't want to go back period. I don't think that's the voice of a lot of teachers who are afraid of ramifications if they speak up," said Woltman.The board president says the district's reopening plan follows the guidance issued by The California Department of Public Health and includes detailed protocols for distancing and ventilation.Teachers in high-risk groups for the virus or with childcare issues can continue teaching remotely until January 27th, but the district hasn't decided beyond that. 3529

ENSENADA, Mexico (KGTV) - The family of a man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico is seeking donations to help get him to a hospital in San Diego.Chad Carrico, who works for a pest control company in Seattle, was on a cruise from Seattle to Mexico when he got off for a day in Ensenada in Baja California on October 10. He and a few friends rented ATV’s but his mother, Theresa Carrico, said he hit something and lost control.“He flew over the handles and the ATV rolled on top of him and crushed him,” said Carrico.His liver was severely damaged. He also suffered a punctured lung and had internal bleeding. He underwent surgery at Velmar Hospital and was placed on life support. He also has to undergo daily kidney dialysis.His mother said, he does not have health insurance in the United States but his employer paid the first ,000 payment.On Monday, she said the hospital told them they owe another ,000.Making matters more pressing, on Monday night they learned he was going into septic shock and may also have contracted a dangerous fungus on his nose that could spread to his brain. Treatment for the fungus, they said, was not available at the hospital.The family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to accept donations. 1243
