BARNEGAT LIGHTHOUSE STATE PARK, N.J. — A dead whale is sitting on a New Jersey state park beach after a Christmas storm blew through the northeast.The humpback whale is near Barnegat Lighthouse State Park in Ocean County. It is unclear at this time how the roughly 20-foot-long whale died, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, a marine animal focused organization that responded to the whale Saturday. They said it could have been hit by a boat or something else during the storm, or died from contracting a disease. In addition to coming ashore on a holiday weekend, when few state employees are working, the below-freezing temperatures are also delaying the whale’s removal.“The whale’s too frozen,” Bob Schoelkopf, the director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center said. “We can’t even cut into the blubber, it’s too thick and frozen.”Schoelkopf believes the dead whale was washed ashore on Christmas Eve, then taken back out to sea on Christmas as a large storm came through, and then came back ashore Saturday.Anyone visiting the area should stay clear, Schoelkopf said, because of the possibility for diseases to be in the carcass.Whale watching boats had spotted the whale alive earlier this year in Sandy Hook bay, where it had been photographed feeding, Schoelkopf said.In September, a different humpback whale was found dead off the Jersey Shore after being entangled. BOSTON (AP) — Four more parents pleaded guilty on Monday in the college admissions bribery scandal, and a Texas man accused of helping to orchestrate the scheme also agreed to reverse his plea and accept guilt.Parents Douglas Hodge, Michelle Janavs, Manuel Henriquez and Elizabeth Henriquez entered guilty pleas in Boston's federal court Monday after previously pleading not guilty. Each faces charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.Martin Fox, the president of a private tennis club in Houston, also agreed to plead guilty by Nov. 20 in a deal that prosecutors announced Monday. He is charged with racketeering.Authorities say Fox brokered bribes to help wealthy parents cheat on their children's college entrance exams at a Houston testing site. He's also accused of arranging bribes to get two students admitted to the University of San Diego as recruited athletes, and one student to the University of Texas. He will return the 5,000 he received through the scheme, according to his plea deal.Fifteen other parents previously pleaded guilty as part of plea agreements. Prosecutors agreed to request lighter sentences for those parents since they took responsibility earlier. But the four new parents had no such deals, and they face additional charges of money laundering that could bring weightier sentences.Out of 10 parents sentenced so far, nine have been dealt prison time, with terms ranging from 14 days to five months. Another 15 parents are fighting charges tied to the scheme. Body cam footage from Goodlettsville, Tennessee police shows officers interacting with a drunk Steven Rowe two hours before he crashed his car head-on into a car full of teenagers.Footage recorded at 1:30 a.m. on Jully 28, shows several officers confront Rowe outside Silverado's, a bar in Goodlettsville. Officers comment on how intoxicated Rowe appears to be. He's slow to respond to questions and seems confused about where he parked his car and has lost his keys.Rowe thinks somebody has stolen his car, but police tell him he's too drunk to make a report."You've got to have a place to go before we arrest you for a PI (public intoxication)," one officer said.Rowe, 28, died at the scene of a crash on Highway 40 at the southeastern edge of Greenbrier before 4:00 a.m. on July 28. He drifted over into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a Honda Element head on.Inside that car were four young people, all 18 or 19 years old. Erica Tackett, Chase Hampton and Perry and Marlie Ford were all in that car. All sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital, Marlie Ford by helicopter.  1130

BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) — Friday marks one year since the devastating Lilac Fire tore through northern San Diego County. More than 100 families lost their homes in the fire."Everything seems different,” said Bonsall resident Marci Grihalva. “I don't know what it is, but it's almost surreal.”Staring out at the landscape, Grihalva surveys her neighborhood."I think everyone was just really surprised how fast this fire went. It was just here,” she said.Grihalva lives in the Rancho Monserate community. It’s just west of the Interstate 15 in the Bonsall area. Last year, the Lilac Fire turned her home and most of her neighborhood to ash."If I think about it, what I lost, it's almost too much,” Grihalva told 10News. “I just can't handle it. It's too hard; it's too hard.”The homes in Rancho Monserate were some of the first to go. Grihalva said she and her husband watched the destruction on television. In the end, 114 homes were destroyed, 55 more damaged, and 45 horses died.Following the fire, the County of San Diego issued a fire response report. It breaks down the sequence of events and focuses on response efforts. The report also highlights successes and offers recommendations on how to be better prepared."The county is constantly improving,” said Holly Crawford, director of the county's Office of Emergency Services. “What we do here in my office is we don't just learn lessons from our own disasters, we look at disasters that happened elsewhere.”Team 10 asked Crawford about each of the recommendations listed in the report and whether or not the county is moving forward with them.
