KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the first time publicly, the woman who claimed Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens took a nude photo of her without her permission during an affair is telling her side of the story.The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, spoke exclusively with KSDK-TV in St. Louis.“I’m in the middle of the most difficult, crazy fight that I didn’t ask to be a part of,” she said in the interview. “And I feel like I’m this easy punching bag, yet I haven’t thrown any punches.”This scandal became public on the night Greitens delivered the annual State of the State address in Jefferson City. That night, KMOV-TV first reported the affair and the allegations against the governor. He was accused of taking a compromising and unauthorized photo of a woman during the 2015 affair, but the felony charge stemming from the accusation has been dropped.While Greitens admitted to the affair, he denies any criminal wrongdoing.During the interview, the woman, who is referred to as K.S. in court documents, said no one had paid her and no one with any political motivations talked to her about coming forward.The story only became public when the woman’s ex-husband came forward with a secret recording as part of the KMOV-TV report.“I didn’t want this. I wasn’t out to get anyone. I really was just trying to live my life,” the woman told KSDK-TV.In February, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney charged the Governor with invasion of privacy. Once that happened, the woman said she felt she should cooperate.The charge was dismissed May 14 in preliminary stages of the trial after the court said it would allow Greitens' lawyers to question the prosecutor under oath, who said it would have been improper for her to be a witness in a trial her office was prosecuting.On Monday, a judge appointed a special prosecutor. (AP) — A group recommending a new Mississippi state flag has chosen five final designs — three with a magnolia blossom, one with a magnolia tree and one with a shield that has wavy lines representing water. Mississippi legislators recently retired the last state flag with the Confederate battle emblem that’s condemned as racist. By law, the new design cannot have the Confederate emblem and must have “In God We Trust.” Mississippi was the 20th state, admitted into the Union in 1817, but the finalist designs have 21 stars to include the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and other indigenous people.After getting hundreds of submissions, the flag comission narrowed the field to nine designs and asked the public to weigh in via an online vote. Commission Chairman Reuben Anderson noted Tuesday that more than 48,000 people voted, according to MississippiToday.com.“That shows Mississippians have a tremendous amount of interest in what we’re doing,” Anderson said. “We’re not going to disappoint them. We will put forth the greatest flag we can have.”The five final designs will be made into flags, and those will be flown Aug. 25 in Jackson. JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi lawmakers are close to erasing the Confederate battle emblem from the 126-year-old state flag. The symbol is under criticism amid nationwide protests against racial injustice. The House and Senate voted Saturday to file a bill to remove the symbol that many see as racist. They could vote on that bill Sunday. A committee would design a new flag including the words “In God We Trust.” Voters would decide in November whether to endorse that design. Religious, education, sports and business leaders are pushing legislators to remove the Confederate symbol. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves said Saturday he will sign a bill to change the flag. 675

JAMUL (CNS) - A fire of unknown origin damaged a home in a back-country neighborhood west of Barrett Lake today and left a resident with burn injuries.The blaze in the 17000 block of Lyons Valley Road in Jamul erupted shortly before 3 p.m., according to Cal Fire.It took crews about an hour to fully subdue the flames, said Issac Sanchez, a fire captain with the state agency.Medics took a 25-year-old man to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of burns of undisclosed severity.The cause of the fire was under investigation, Sanchez said. 557

KILLEEN, Texas -- The U.S. Army and law enforcement in Texas are asking for the public's help in locating another missing Fort Hood soldier.Family members say they have not heard from Sgt. Elder Fernandes, 23, since Monday, August 17."I don't know where he is at right now. I don't know what he's feeling, I don't know if he's hurt. I don't know what's going on. I just know he's a good kid. He would never disappear and not tell his family where he is at," said Ailina Fernandes, the soldier's mother.The soldier was reported missing on Wednesday, August 19. He was last seen by his staff sergeant Monday afternoon when he dropped him off at his residence located in the 2700 block of Woodlands Drive in Killeen.Fort Hood released a statement late Friday."We can confirm that there is an open investigation of abusive sexual contact involving Sgt. Fernandes," the statement read. "The chain of command takes all allegations of sexual harassment and assault seriously. The unit sexual assault response coordinator has been working closely with Sgt. Fernandes, ensuring he was aware of all his reporting, care, and victim advocacy options. The unit also facilitated his transfer from a unit who has recently deployed to a different unit within the brigade to ensure he received the proper care and ensure there were no opportunities for reprisals. We will provide updates as we are able once CID completes their investigation."The soldier is African American, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 133 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black Army physical training shirt and shorts with black, orange, and yellow athletic shoes.Information gathered from fellow soldiers so far indicate Fernandes may have left Fort Hood on his own accord, Army officials said.Sgt. Fernandes is a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear specialist assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB), 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade (1CDSB).Fort Hood officials say a search of the entire division area, including motorpools, parking lots and headquarters buildings was conducted. Fort Hood says the unit is in contact with the Fernandes family, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and civilian law enforcement agencies.The soldier is from Brockton, Massachusetts. According to State Representative Liz Miranda, Sgt. Fernandes' car was found with all of his belongings.
