PORTER RANCH (CNS) - A 7,552-acre brush fire continued to burn in the northern San Fernando Valley Saturday after damaging or destroying 31 structures, forcing about 100,000 people from their homes and creating dangerously unhealthy air quality over a huge chunk of the Southland.The Saddleridge Fire, which officials said was 19% contained as of Saturday morning, burned in the areas of Sylmar, Granada Hills and Porter Ranch.Ralph Terrazas, chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, said 13 structures were destroyed, while the rest suffered varying degrees of damage.One person, described only as a man in his 50s, died of a heart attack Friday morning in the Porter Ranch area, according to the LAFD. People who can smell smoke or see ash are advised to remain indoors with windows and doors closed, and avoid vigorous physical activity.The massive fire prompted a mandatory evacuation order for all residents of Porter Ranch north of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway from Reseda Boulevard to DeSoto Avenue. Residents of Granada Hills from Balboa Boulevard and north of Sesnon Boulevard to the Ventura County border were under a mandatory evacuation order. Mandatory evacuations were also issued for the Oakridge Estates community north of the Foothill Freeway in Sylmar.The evacuation orders affected roughly 23,000 homes -- equating to about 100,000 people, authorities said. By noon Saturday, evacuation orders were lifted for all homes south of the 118 Freeway, areas west of Mason Avenue and southwest of Corbin Avenue, and smaller areas to the east. President Donald Trump issued an executive order this week that states new federal buildings should be more like classical designs and “beautify public spaces.” The American Institute of Architects say they are “appalled” by the order.“President George Washington and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson consciously modeled the most important buildings in Washington, D.C., on the classical architecture of ancient Athens and Rome,” the executive order, titled “Promoting beautiful federal civic architecture,” states.It establishes a new council to advise the president on future federal buildings.The order says in the 1950s, government buildings were allowed to look more “contemporary” and created a “discordant mixture of classical and modernist designs.”“The new buildings ranged from the undistinguished to designs even GSA now admits many in the public found unappealing,” the order says.“New Federal building designs should, like America’s beloved landmark buildings, uplift and beautify public spaces, inspire the human spirit, ennoble the United States, command respect from the general public, and, as appropriate, respect the architectural heritage of a region,” the order continues. Then states that “classical and other traditional architecture” have “proven their ability” to “satisfy today’s functional, technical, and sustainable needs.”The American Institute of Architects has already come out in opposition of the order, saying the group “unequivocally opposes” the initiative. POWYS, Wales – A police dog in Wales had an eventful first shift and he deserves all the treats.Dyfed-Powys Police say their newly licensed dog, Max, found a missing mother and her 1-year-old child on the edge of a ravine during his first night on the job.Police say the 2-year-old German shepherd and his handler, PC Peter Lloyd, were crucial in tracking down the woman and toddler, who were reported missing on Saturday.The woman had reportedly not been seen or heard from for two days, which was out of character, and her phone wasn’t working.Thankfully, officers say the woman’s car was quickly found on a mountain road, which gave crews an area to start searching.“This is where PD Max’s tracking skills really came into play,” said Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones in a press release. “Despite only recently becoming licensed, and on his first operational shift, he immediately commenced an open area search.”Police say Max and Lloyd covered a significant distance and at 1:30 p.m., they spotted the missing woman waving for help near a steep ravine on the mountain side. She was helped down, and arrangements were made for her and her baby to be checked out by medical professionals.“They were safe, but cold, and appeared to have been in the area for a significant amount of time,” said Rees-Jones.Max is a general-purpose dog, who will primarily be used for tracking and locating people in buildings and open air, tracing discarded property and tracking and detaining suspects, according to police.“I was really pleased that during our first operational deployment as a dog team, myself and Max were able to safely locate the missing mother and baby,” said Lloyd. “Max remained focused throughout the long search and he proved invaluable when he reacted to the call for help which resulted in us locating them.” 1825

President Donald Trump called on the federal government to charge anyone toppling or vandalizing "any monument" with crimes related to the Veteran's Memorial Preservation Act — a charge that Trump says could result in a 10-year-prison sentence if convicted."This action is taken effective immediately, but may also be used retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused.
