SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lifeguards say a swimmer who disappeared early Saturday in Pacific Beach has been found safe.San Diego Lifeguards say four friends went into the ocean around 1:30 a.m. across from the Ocean Blvd. and Garnet Ave. beach entrance. But one of the friends did not return, prompting searches throughout the morning by U.S. Coast Guard and lifeguard crews.Later Saturday, the missing person was located safe at a friend's house, the Coast Guard told 10News.The swimmer was reportedly celebrating his 21st birthday at the nearby Waterbar before the group went for a swim, according to San Diego Lifeguard Lieutenant Rich Stropky.Though the group told lifeguards the water was only waist deep in the area they were swimming, the swimmer somehow became separated. The person's clothes, wallet, and phone were also left behind when the group returned to shore, Stropky said.Saturday morning, a U.S. Coast Guard cutter and helicopter assisted in the search. 972

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It should be no surprise at this point that home prices are still on the rise in San Diego this April. A new report from Zillow shows that, year-to-year, home values in San Diego have risen more than eight percent. According to Zillow, the median home value in San Diego currently sits at just over 5,000. That change marks an increase of 8.4 percent since last April.Meanwhile, rent is also on the rise at a median of just over ,500, or an increase of 3.6 percent since last April.Click on the charts below for more information:  The high cost of housing in San Diego is in stark contrast with national home values.The median home value nationally is 5,600. If there's one thing San Diego and the rest of the nation have in common in this report it's that both saw home values increase by more than eight percent.“Home values are rising faster than we’ve seen in a very long time: The spring home shopping season has been a perfect storm of strong demand and tight supply,” said Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas.Nationally, the number of new homes being built is also seeing a decrease. “Sluggish new construction has exacerbated the supply situation and homes that are hitting the market, are moving very quickly once they do. Americans are also in a spending mood, boosted by recent tax cuts and rising wages. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local health officials said Thursday a new case of vaping-related lung injury has been reported, as county leaders prepare to consider new vaping regulations.So far in San Diego, there have been 43 confirmed cases of vaping-associated lung injury with three cases under investigation. There haven't been any local deaths, but all patients have had to be hospitalized. Those affected range in age from 17 to 70 years old, according to the county.The CDC has said that vitamin E acetate and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are closely linked with e-cigarette, or vaping, associated lung injury. CDC recommends people avoid using THC-containing e-cigarettes or vaping products.RELATED: San Diego woman hospitalized with vaping illness warns others“Vaping-related lung injuries continue to be reported in the region and that’s concerning,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer.As of Jan. 7, the CDC has reported 2,602 hospitalizations or deaths from sudden and severe lung injuries associated with vaping.The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is set to discuss several potential local actions on regulating e-cigarette devices during a Jan. 14 meeting. Those ordinances include a ban on flavored tobacco sale and distribution, device moratorium, and restricting e-cigarette smoking to outdoor areas at restaurant. The ordinances would apply to unincorporated parts of the county.“As stewards of public health; we have a responsibility to raise awareness and act in the best interest of the public to protect them,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “Right now we simply do not know enough about the chemicals being consumed and their impacts. We are acting in a similar fashion to other jurisdictions in California, we are acting with an abundance of caution.” A second meeting on the ordinances will be held on Jan. 28.
