San Diego (KGTV) –  Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer Friday announced the expansion of his successful “Play All Day” initiative, a pledge to break ground on or upgrade 50 parks in five years, by adding an additional 15 parks to neighborhoods across the city.   The program was initially proposed during Mayor Kevin Faulconer's 2016 State of the City address and the initiative is a partnership between the City of San Diego and the San Diego Unified School District, designed to maximize public resources and increase the amount of city park space, especially in urban communities. The parks are used by the school system during the day and remain open to the community after school hours.  720

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A field trip to one of San Diego County’s beaches is making waves on social media after underprivileged children were taken to the beach in a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department bus. Pictures posted on social media show the kids being taken to Del Mar Beach in the bus Thursday. One parent told 10News she was upset when she found out how her child was taken to the beach.“It just doesn’t look right. It just puts us in an awkward point of view,” said Kimberly Steele. "I feel like they would not transport children from La Jolla on a bus like that."According to STAR/PAL, the nonprofit organization that put on the field trip, the trips are meant to foster a relationship between the community and law enforcement. The group is made up of civilian and law enforcement personnel including baseball, soccer, and surf programs. “The message has never been ‘you’re gonna be on a bus that’s used for anything negative,’” said Claire Leveau, Executive Director of the organization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Bankers Hill woman may be forced to tear down part of her historic home to make way for a city park with an AIDS memorial.Otherwise, she faces thousands of dollars in daily fines from the city. Jennifer Hasso has owned the 1924 Tudor-style home since 1998. She says she's invested millions to restore it to its glory. The city even designated it as historic. The house sits at the end of 2nd Avenue in Bankers Hill. Right behind it, a nearly one-acre site on Olive Street the city is eyeing for a community park with an AIDS memorial. The park would also include fitness and seating areas, walkways and an overlook deck. County property maps show the city owns the land immediately north of Hasso's home, which has no setback from its property line. In fact, Hasso's bay window and chimney extend over that property line, and her entire backyard extend is across that line. 904

Its goal is to help offer pain relief for severely burned koalas. The device, the Oska Pulse, uses electromagnetic pulses to help damaged cells heals. The goal is to speed up the recovery process to allow the animals begin rehabilitation sooner. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Bald Eagle admitted to the San Diego Humane Society on Fourth of July died Tuesday, the organization said.According to the Humane Society, the eagle passed away after being sedated and anesthetized for an examination.
