CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay teen was recently published in The New York Times, sharing a very personal account of what distance learning is like for him during the pandemic. Isaac Lozano is a senior at Bonita Vista High School, a school in the Sweetwater Union High School District. Lozano praises the district for starting the school year virtually because of COVID-19. Lozano told ABC 10News that sharing his reality wasn’t easy, but he now feels proud that he can be a voice for other students like him.The op-ed titled “Remote Learning Is Hard. Losing Family Members is Worse" was published on Aug. 13.In the article Lozano, a straight-A student, details his struggles with distance learning at home. He lives in a two-bedroom apartment, shares a room with his two brothers, and both parents are essential workers. Lozano also lives in the South Bay, one of the areas most impacted by COVID-19 in San Diego County.Lozano writes about not having a designated place to study, moving from room to room in his family’s apartment. He also highlights internet connectivity issues, but insists he has concerns about going back to school before it is safe to do so.Lozano gets personal in the article, sharing that COVID-19 hits close to home. His uncle died of the virus.Since the article was published, Lozano says he’s heard from people offering to help. He’s also heard from a publishing company, a literary magazine and even received an internship offer from a congressional candidate.Lozano will be applying to colleges in the fall and is interested in applying to Stanford, Yale, and UCLA. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (CNS) -- Search warrants served at five illegal marijuana dispensaries in Chula Vista, Lakeside and Spring Valley resulted in the arrests of six people on a variety of charges and the seizure of .1 million and 3,000 pounds of marijuana and other drugs.Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department served the warrants at the dispensaries, as well as at homes in Jamul and San Diego and at a storage facility in Spring Valley, according to Sgt. Zheath Sanchez.The warrants followed "numerous community complaints related to unlicensed and illegal dispensaries, some located in residential neighborhoods and near local schools," Sanchez said.Taken into custody were:-- Samir Shoshani, 34, of Jamul and Iisin Mikha, 28, of Michigan, for conspiracy and operating or maintaining a drug house-- Brandon Ceja, 23, of San Diego, for being a felon in possession of a firearm-- Ariel Brown, 23, of Chula Vista, for possession of metal knuckles and possession of marijuana for sale-- Faith Ford, 22, of San Diego for possession of marijuana for saleIn addition to the marijuana, deputies seized marijuana edibles, concentrated cannabis, suspected Psilocybin mushrooms, and 20 firearms, including three semi-automatic rifles, Sanchez said.Two of the illegal dispensaries were located in Spring Valley, one in the 9900 block of Dolores Street and the other in 9500 block of Kenwood Drive.Two others were located in Lakeside, in the 8500 block of Winter Gardens Boulevard and the 900 block of Greenfield Drive in Lakeside.The fifth illegal dispensary was located in Chula Vista in the 300 block of Palomar Street. 1639

(KGTV) - Chula Vista police are now investigating multiple fires that broke out in over the span of a few days in the early hours of the morning.Captain Linda D’Orsi, Public Information Officer for the Chula Vista Fire Department, said they started early in the morning Sept. 17 and most have been fences and vegetation that burned. That Thursday morning, crews responded to multiple fires that started in the span of about half an hour, starting on Lake Crest Dr. & Wueste Rd, moving to 1120 Eastlake Parkway, then Telegraph Canyon Rd and Buena Vista Way and finally E. J St and Paseo Ladera.Just about two days later, crews then responded to a fire at the playground at Veteran’s Park. Karina Lodin lives across the street. She said she woke up to see the flames, then she called 911 and her husband took a video of the blaze.“For a second there, with everything that’s going on in California with all the wildfires, and you see this big fire outside your house, you start panicking like is my house going to catch up on fire,” said Lodin.She was disheartened to see the play structure flattened because it was a spot her son loved to play.Just one day after that, another fire nearby on Martin Place, also in the early hours of the morning.“As of this latest one, we have now requested our PD liaison because there seems to be a trend and we want to get to the bottom of this,” said Captain D’Orsi.Captain D’Orsi said they have not found anything left behind at each scene and have not found any witnesses with information on people in the area.“No obvious evidence left at the scene, no matches no flares,” she said.She added that anyone with information is asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department non emergency line at 619-691-5151.“We just want the community to be aware and be willing to provide information if they have any,” said Captain D’Orsi. 1894

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man wanted on suspicion of killing his wife Sunday is believed to be on the run in the San Diego area, police said.The suspect was identified as Francisco Uriarte, 37, who is suspected in the death of his wife at an apartment in the 500 block of Oxford Street, according to Lt. Dan Peak of the Chula Vista Police Department.Chula Vista police were called to the address at 1:38 a.m. Sunday after a report of a domestic violence in progress, Peak said."Upon arrival, officers located three children at the residence," Peak said. "Officers were told (by) the children their mother and father had been in a physical fight."The children also told officers their dad had fled the scene and believed he killed their mother during the fight," Peak said. "The children were not injured from the incident and are currently safe in protective custody."The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of her family, Peak said."Francisco should be considered armed and dangerous," Peak said. He was last seen wearing a large black overcoat, shorts and flip-flops, he said.The suspect is also believed to have significant injuries to his hands and may try to seek medical attention, Peak said.Uriarte is 5-feet-9-inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, Peak said. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - A former San Diego psychiatrist who reportedly had offices in Chula Vista, San Ysidro, Kearny Mesa and El Cajon pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of having sexual contact with seven female patients during office visits and a misdemeanor count of sexual battery for groping an eighth woman.Leon Fajerman, 75, will be ordered to serve 365 days in custody and be required to register as a sex offender at a sentencing hearing Jan. 18.Judge Francis Devaney will consider alternatives to actual jail time, according to Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Matzger, City News Service reported.REPORT: San Diego County psychiatrist charged with sexual battery, having sex with patientFajerman -- who has been a licensed physician in California since 1978 -- voluntarily surrendered his medical license in May, state records show.In September 2017, court records showed that Fajerman assaulted three female patients, including one who said he groped her breasts and buttocks, according to the Union-Tribune.The complaints were turned in to the Medical Board of California. Fajerman surrendered his medical license May 15, 2018.Fajerman received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires and had been in practice for more than 20 years, according to US News. 1309
