(KGTV) -- The San Dieguito Union High School District is pausing its expansion of on-campus learning until January amid the coronavirus pandemic.The district said Saturday it originally planned to expand access to campus for one day a week of in-class instruction in November.“In order to provide a safe, stable, and sustainable return to campus, and in consideration of maintaining the integrity of our instructional model, we are moving that date to the week of January 4, 2021, for the remainder of Quarter 2,” the district said.Leading up to January, schools plan to hold meetings with parents and students to review bell schedules.Read the full letter from the district below: 689

A 6-year-old girl shared her thoughts on Baltimore's crime through a heartfelt Facebook video as the city deals with more than 30 murders in the month of April.In the video, you can see 6-year-old Kelsey wearing a shirt that says "Don't Shoot Let Me Grow Up" as she begins to share her feeling on the numerous killings that are plaguing the city that she calls home."Why can't y'all just let us live, why can't y'all just let us grow up, why can't you just let us have fun when we want to play with our friends. Well, we can't because y'all out there shooting kids, shooting babies, shooting mothers and fathers," said Kelsey.Kelsey began to make an emotional outpour as she cried sharing the frustrations that she feels as a child in Baltimore City."This is not a world you let other people shoot in, we want our lives to be better than this," said Kelsey. (KGTV) — Newly released video shows the moment a Portland high school coach disarmed a student who brought a loaded shotgun to school in May.Keanon Lowe, Parkrose High School's head football and track coach, was in a classroom full of students when the gunman, identified as Angel Granados Dias, came in with shotgun on May 17, 2019, according to Portland police.In the video, Lowe brings Dias into a school hallway after appearing to disarm the student. Lowe is seen holding the shotgun before handing it off to another staff member. The coach continues to hold the student and embrace him in a hug, as the staff member leaves with the firearm and students flee from the classroom.Lowe, a former Oregon Ducks football player and NFL coach, says he lunged for the gun with both hands inside the classroom when he realized what was happening.The coach said he told Dias he was there for him and that his life was worth saving. Investigators say Dias was suffering a mental health crisis and only intended to hurt himself, Portland ABC-affiliate KATU reported."Then it was just me and that student. It was a real emotional time. It was emotional for him, it was emotional for me," Lowe told KATU in May. "In that time, I felt compassion for him. A lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it’s over."Dias has since been sentenced to three years probation and to undergo mental health treatment. (KGTV) -- Testimony will continue Tuesday in the preliminary exam for the suspected smuggler charged with murder after leading the border patrol on a wild, high speed chase that ended with the deaths of three of his passengers. It happened on westbound Interstate 8 near Boulevard on the evening of November 29th, 2018. Luis Virgen, 21, is a U.S. citizen who had been living in Tijuana at the time of the crash. He's charged with second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. Virgen is accused of smashing through a gate that leads into the U.S. from Mexico with 10 undocumented immigrants in his truck, including 9 in the bed of the truck under a tarp. Everyone but the driver was thrown from the truck when it crashed after hitting a spike strip deployed by the border patrol. Gregg Curtis testified that after the truck blew past him, he started shooting video with his cellphone in case something happened. Curtis can be heard talking under the cellphone video, which was played in court Monday. "I wouldn't be surprised if he totally crashes his brains out," said Curtis. He also testified about how fast the defendant was going."I was alarmed at a vehicle passing me at such a large rate of speed that it shook my truck," said Rieu. The border patrol received some criticism following the incident, some questioning why they didn't call off the chase given the wet roads and dangerous conditions at the time. Several agents testified that they had no idea that the truck's bed was hiding several undocumented immigrants. Another agent described how he tried to revive the victims. "Another individual, I cradled his head, he was moaning and groaning, and I told him he was going to be fine that it was just a scratch and to stay awake," said Agent Jahir Waterman.
