SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new scam appears to target local Amazon customers worried about being victims of package theft.Neighbors at the Escala community in Mission Valley say package thefts have been an ongoing problem for the last few years.Could the trend be providing fuel for a scam? A recent encounter at the housing complex could point to a new method by scammers.Adriana Alberdi, who has lived at the complex for a decade, said she and other residents received an email from the property management company describing a recent visitor.According to the email, the man — described as blond and in his early 20s — was wearing a lanyard connected to a tablet. He had business cards and claimed to work at Amazon. At one point, the man went to the on-site office pushing to install an Amazon Key device in homes. The new service allows Amazon to gain access to a home or car to deliver packages and keep them from getting stolen.The email says the man was "pushy" and "argumentative," before finally leaving. Amazon confirmed the man was not an employee."It's like you're getting robbed of your security. You don't know who to trust anymore," said Alberdi. "This is new. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego International Airport TSA employee and worker at an airport vendor have both tested positive for coronavirus, the airport and TSA confirmed.San Diego International officials also confirmed that they were notified by an airport tenant that one of their employees has tested positive for coronavirus. No information was given as to which tenant the employee worked for and when they last worked.TSA officials say the screening officer worked the 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. shift at the airport's checkpoint 6, which is located in Terminal 2. "TSA is working with the CDC and state and local health departments to monitor local situations as well as the health and safety of our employees and the traveling public. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A local medical spa is coming under fire for offering a coronavirus treatment that costs thousands of dollars but the spa director defends his actions.Dr. Jennings Staley operates Carmel Valley’s Skinny Beach med spa which specializes in treatments like Botox and laser hair removal. He says he’s been dealing with a lot over the last few days.“Death threats. Last Friday, screen shots shared with 10News revealed his new COVID-19 treatment pricing plans which go up to nearly ,000 for a family resistance pack which includes, in part, the prescription drugs and vitamin C. “It just seems to me that it's a way to profit off of people's fear,” says Seattle-area family practitioner Dr. Leanne Kildare. Cold vs. Flu vs. Coronavirus SymptomsWhen she saw the ads, she was stunned.One ad description reads in part, "Dr. Staley will evaluate your symptoms via telemedicine” and "if needed, a nurse or Dr. Staley will visit you at your home" for further evaluation and potential in-home COVID-19 testing and possibly start a treatment pack, which is "now available by prescription only through Skinny Beach med spa." “It doesn’t sit well,” adds Dr. Kildare.“I knew it would be a little bit controversial because there was the controversy around the fact that hydroxychloroquine wasn't approved until Sunday night but I didn't think people would be so angry,” Dr. Staley tells 10News.The FDA gave emergency approval Sunday to distribute hydroxychloroquine to hospitals, despite the potential side effects like heart problems, and lack of studies showing the medication's benefits.“I would not prescribe the medication without seeing the patient and evaluating them first,” Dr. Staley says.He tells 10News that he's treating about 20 patients with possible COVID-19 symptoms and he's only charging a few of them for his services. He adds that he doesn't have test kits yet and he has not yet prescribed any of them the hydroxychloroquine.Dr. Kildare believes it’s irresponsible to offer the drug outside of a controlled hospital setting.“I wouldn't take the risk. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego law student is making parking less expensive downtown. The city approved to lower rates and extend parking hours along Third Avenue and Cedar Street on Thursday. It's no secret downtown parking is tough. "Sometimes it’s just hard to find one," said Oday Yousif. "That’s the problem. It’s never guaranteed."For students at Cal Western Law School, it's not any easier. "8 o'clock in the morning, that’s when the meters start running. That’s when most classes start; they’re already full," said Yousif. There are 26 metered spots on Third Avenue and Cedar Street right next to the school. "My bank statement is just filed 'City of San Diego parking'. .25 an hour for a max of two hours. So, after those two hours, you have to move your car or you’ll get a ticket," said Yousif.He got three tickets in one year. "They’re about 60 to 70 dollars, and then there’s a fee. I've appealed every single one I've got."Yousif wrote an email to the city to try to fix the situation. He worked on a resolution with the Downtown Parking Management Group for ten months. They proposed lowering the rate to 50 cents per hour for up to four hours of parking. "Giving us 50 cents an hour is not only beneficial to help students, but doing it at four hours is the perfect combination to help students who are just trying to have an ideal parking scenario," said Yousif. That proposal was approved unanimously by the City Transportation Engineering Division on Thursday.
