CHULA VISTA, Calif. (CNS) -- Search warrants served at five illegal marijuana dispensaries in Chula Vista, Lakeside and Spring Valley resulted in the arrests of six people on a variety of charges and the seizure of .1 million and 3,000 pounds of marijuana and other drugs.Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department served the warrants at the dispensaries, as well as at homes in Jamul and San Diego and at a storage facility in Spring Valley, according to Sgt. Zheath Sanchez.The warrants followed "numerous community complaints related to unlicensed and illegal dispensaries, some located in residential neighborhoods and near local schools," Sanchez said.Taken into custody were:-- Samir Shoshani, 34, of Jamul and Iisin Mikha, 28, of Michigan, for conspiracy and operating or maintaining a drug house-- Brandon Ceja, 23, of San Diego, for being a felon in possession of a firearm-- Ariel Brown, 23, of Chula Vista, for possession of metal knuckles and possession of marijuana for sale-- Faith Ford, 22, of San Diego for possession of marijuana for saleIn addition to the marijuana, deputies seized marijuana edibles, concentrated cannabis, suspected Psilocybin mushrooms, and 20 firearms, including three semi-automatic rifles, Sanchez said.Two of the illegal dispensaries were located in Spring Valley, one in the 9900 block of Dolores Street and the other in 9500 block of Kenwood Drive.Two others were located in Lakeside, in the 8500 block of Winter Gardens Boulevard and the 900 block of Greenfield Drive in Lakeside.The fifth illegal dispensary was located in Chula Vista in the 300 block of Palomar Street. 1639

CINCINNATI — Cross-country runner Justin Gallegos is making history. He’s the first athlete with cerebral palsy to sign an endorsement contract with Nike. The University of Oregon junior was given the news last weekend after a college race, and he was visibly touched by achieving his dream of becoming a professional runner. Justin’s parents, Brent and Tracy Gallegos, say they’re proud all Justin has worked to achieve, and were stunned to see him in that moment."I’ve never seen him that emotional ever…..ever," Brent Gallegos said.Justin’s condition affects muscle and motor function, but he didn’t let that stop him."He works very hard for it and when he sets his goals, he sets them very high," Tracy Gallegos said.His story of overcoming obstacles is inspiring others. He was a big topic of conversation among some medical professionals attending a three-day conference for the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine hosted by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - This week Chula Vista Police shut down yet another illegal cannabis dispensary, an ongoing problem that's grown in recent years. While the city doesn't allow any cannabis sales at the moment, police believe there's roughly a dozen or more operating illegally in the city.“One of the challenges with unlicensed, illegal cannabis business is that they move and they change. The number of facilities is always changing, the location of facilities changes quite frequently," said Captain Phil Collum.Captain Collum says their most recent bust was one of the most egregious cases he's seen, from the number of cannabis products to security measures.“I was standing inside the facility and was shocked at what they had done," said Collum. "The windows were sealed shut with metal plating; the front door was actually, had a welded security grate that was locked closed, it had pretty much sealed off any emergency evacuation routes to this facility.”He says if there were a fire or sudden emergency in the building people could have been trapped. Captain Collum said they were alerted to the illegal operation by neighbor complaints. "It’s so important that community contact us and let us know where they believe an illegal cannabis for marijuana business might be located.”Chula Vista PD partnered with Chula Vista's Office of the City Attorney and the Code Enforcement Department to serve a civil abatement warrant for the illegal cannabis dispensary. “I’m not frustrated with the process, what’s frustrating quite honestly is people are taking advantage of our community.”Captain Collum urges the public to continue notifying authorities when they spot illegal businesses popping up in the city. 1731

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of shooting and killing an employee at a South Bay fast-food restaurant and injuring two others pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday. A judge at the arraignment ordered Albert Lee Blake be held on million bail, noting he poses extreme danger to the public. Blake was arrested in Memphis, Tennessee Friday. “ Investigators with the local task force began to hunt for the fugitive. He was pinpointed in a house on the 2300 block of Hubbard street today. He was taken into custody without incident,” the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release Friday.Blake is charged with shooting and killing Maribel Merino-Ibanez, 28, and wounding two men on November 6 at the Church’s Chicken on Del Sol Boulevard.
