(CNN) - As the Dow was on pace for its best day of the year, and a report showed American stores had their best holiday season in six years, JCPenney's stock fell below for the first time since it started trading in 1929.That's pretty much everything you need to know about the state of JCPenney (JCP).The 110-year old company hasn't been profitable since 2010 and its prospects are bleak. JCPenney is billion in debt with a junk credit rating, a sinking cash hoard and no sign of a turnaround.With few shoppers coming to stores, JCPenney faces inventory and supply chain struggles and no clear marketing plan or strategy. The company has been forced to offer steep discounts on clothing to clear its massive inventory glut.Last month, JCPenney reported a 1 million third-quarter loss and a 5.4% drop in sales. The stock has fallen 68% this year and nearly 30% in December alone.Jill Soltau, formerly the boss of Jo-Ann Stores, became CEO in October — the company's fourth in six years. Soltau has her work cut out for her.The company's leaders said they are considering closing some of JCPenney's remaining 860 stores. That might help JCPenney in the near-term, but its long-term prospects are questionable. The company has a .1 billion debt payment due in 2023. Wall Street analysts are skeptical about JCPenney's ability to repay that money.A spokeswoman for JCPenney declined to comment.The company never really recovered from the Great Recession. It lost shoppers to cheaper sellers a decade ago and struggled to bring them back as the economy began to rebound.JCPenney plowed through its cash reserve in an expensive makeover after it hired former Apple Store chief Ron Johnson as its CEO in 2011. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A potential partnership between the San Diego Unified School District and UC San Diego could help prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the school district.On Tuesday, officials with SD Unified and UC San Diego will discuss a collaborative effort that will provide COVID-19 testing -- with rapid results -- for district students and staff members every two weeks.Under the proposed testing program, all students and staff would be tested even if no symptoms are shown. The plan is to get their more than 100,000 students and 15,000 staff members tested twice a month.School Board Vice President Richard Barrera said, “We can’t wait for the federal and state government to provide so we can reopen our schools. We have to take the initiative ourselves ... being able to test on our campuses both students and staff is the best way to get large numbers of people being tested. UC San Diego would bring health professionals onto our campuses to do the testing.”San Diego Unified School District schools are currently in Phase One of the district's reopening plan. Under Phase One, which began Oct. 13, teachers have returned to campuses to provide appointment-based, in-person instruction for elementary school students identified as having “the greatest needs.”Phase Two of the district’s reopening plan would begin for elementary school students on Jan. 4, 2021. Nintendo has long been synonymous with entertainment. But now the gaming giant is getting into education.The company announced on Tuesday it is partnering with education nonprofit Institute of Play to bring its popular Switch gaming console and DIY Labo kits to 100 classrooms across the United States. The effort aims to help kids build communication and critical thinking skills in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).The Nintendo Switch, which is both a handheld and home console, sold roughly 10 million units?after its launch. In January 2018, the company introduced Nintendo Labo, series of DIY projects that allows kids to build things such as an RC car, a fishing rod and a piano out of cardboard. These cardboard figures are used with Switch video games and can tech basic programming skills through its Toy-Con Garage feature.Nintendo is bringing the products to 100 schools nationwide for kids ages 8 to 11. A pilot program has already brought kits to 11 schools in the New York City Tri-State area. The program will run through March 2019.Interested schools can also apply to participate. But Fils-Aime says Labo kits provide more than just entertainment to pass the time."It inspires people, particularly kids to make creations and figure out how they work," he said. "The do-it-yourself, tactile nature really is what drives the experience. (AP) — Authorities say divers have found the body of the last missing victim in a fatal boat fire that killed 34 people off the Southern California coast.The victim is one of 34 who died at sea last week near Santa Cruz Island. Five of the Conception's six crew members survived after multiple attempts to save the others who were trapped below deck.Authorities have said the victims, 21 women and 13 men from 16 to 62 years old, appear to have died from smoke inhalation. One of the victims was San Diegan Nicole Quitasol, a waitress at Nickey Rotten's in Coronado.The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office also said Wednesday on Twitter that authorities are still doing DNA testing to confirm the identities of seven of the victims. Lt. Erik Raney says salvage efforts to recover the Conception also resumed Wednesday.The FBI, Coast Guard and U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles are conducting a criminal probe into the Sept. 2 tragedy. (CNN) -- Easter Island has long been a bucket list destination for travelers from around the world.But the very thing that keeps the island's economy going strong may be the thing that ultimately causes its ruin: mass tourism.Recently, a spate of bad behavior by travelers on Easter Island, which is famed for its enormous statues known as moai, has spurred new conversations about how visitors to the island should behave.Specifically, a new trend of photos where people make it look like they're "picking the noses" of the moai.Jo Anne Van Tilburg is an archaeologist, director of the Rock Art Archive at the University of California - Los Angeles and the Director of the Easter Island Statue Project.Although her life's work has been to protect and study the moai, these days she's focusing more on educating the hundreds of thousands of people who visit Easter Island on how to behave properly -- on a personal level as well as an environmental one."Because of the ubiquitous nature of photography in our community, people take the same picture repeatedly. Once one person picks a nose of the moai, you can be sure there will be multiple thousands [of photos], because people are lemmings," Von Tilburg tells CNN Travel.Two other examples of these "overdone" photos are people who make it look like they're holding the Great Pyramid of Giza in the palm of their hand and travelers making it look as if they're pushing the Leaning Tower of Pisa up to keep it from falling."There's nothing creative or interesting or humorous about it. The herd instinct is real."Van Tilburg first visited Easter Island, which is part of Polynesia but a territory of Chile, in 1981 as a doctoral student. The island did not get added to the UNESCO World Heritage list until 1995.Since then, she has returned regularly and noticed a shift in the kinds of people who choose to visit Rapa Nui National Park.In the 1980s, between 2,000 and 5,000 travelers per year came to Rapa Nui National Park. These days, it's north of 100,000 annually. Instead of two flights a week from Santiago, there are three a day.That's a huge burden on an island with only about 6,000 full-time residents, not to mention one where water and other natural resources are in limited supply and must be used carefully.Although visitors in the past were able to roam the national park freely and get close to all the moai, the crush of overtourism has come with restrictions and now travelers must stick to a prescribed path and only view a few of the statues.And bad behavior is sadly not a new invention. In 2008, a Finnish man who climbed one of the moai and chipped a piece of ear off was arrested, fined ,000 and ordered to leave the island and never return.Van Tilburg also feels that there has been a shift between people who were longtime fans of archeology and history who saved up to afford a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Easter Island, to people who are simply "collectors of places."In 2018, some controls were put into place to protect Easter Island. Now, foreigners and Chileans who are not Rapa Nui can only get 30-day travel visas instead of the previous 90-day ones.So, if you still want to visit Easter Island and want to show respect for the people and the land there, what can you do? Van Tilburg has a few suggestions."Read and prepare," she says simply. "Once you show your guide you have a serious interest, they will take you seriously. Make your questions deserving of answers."And studying up on Easter Island also means recognizing that it's a living site, not a museum."There are 1,000 statues and there are 5,000 people," Van Tilburg says.
