SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The amount of snow blanketing the Sierra Nevada is even larger than the 2017 snowpack that pulled the state out of a five-year drought, California water officials said.As of Thursday, the snowpack measured 202% of average after a barrage of storms throughout winter and spring, according to the Department of Water Resources.The wet weather has slowed but not stopped, with thunderstorms prompting flash flood warnings Sunday in the central and southern parts of the state.At this time last year, the snowpack measured 6% of average — making this year 33 times bigger than 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.In 2017, the snowpack measured 190% of average.The snowpack supplies about 30 percent of state water needs.In the Tahoe Basin, Squaw Valley ski resort has seen so much snow it plans to keep its slopes open until least July 5. In May alone, Squaw recorded 37 inches (94 centimeters).State officials consider the most important snowpack measurement to be the one taken around April 1 because that's typically when storm activity subsides."And then after that the sun's highest position in the sky contributes to rapid melting. SEATTLE (AP) — Starbucks says it will offer delivery in most of the U.S. by early next year.The Seattle coffee company launched delivery last fall in Miami with its partner, Uber Eats. It has since expanded to 10 additional U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.Starbucks says Uber Eats will remain its preferred provider as it rolls out delivery more widely.Customers in most areas where Starbucks and Uber Eats operate will be able to order drinks and other menu items. Uber Eats says it currently covers more than 70% of the U.S. population.Starbucks and Uber Eats will also work together to improve delivery packaging, in-store operations and delivery speed. 689

Sears Holdings will close another 63 Kmart and Sears stores following the 2017 holiday shopping season.On Thursday, the company made the announcement to employees at the affected stores, which span 26 states.The closings affect 45 Kmart stores and 18 Sears stores. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An attorney for a U.S. college student and her boyfriend who have been sentenced to four months in prison in the Cayman Islands for violating strict COVID-19 measures says he plans to appeal the recent ruling.Their attorney Jonathon Hughes says Skylar Mack, 18, of Georgia, and Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, of the Cayman Islands, have been in prison since Tuesday.He says he will argue for a less severe sentence next week and says the two have never been in trouble with the police.Mack is accused of breaking a mandatory two-week quarantine.Hughes told the Associated Press that on Nov. 27, Mack arrived in the Cayman Islands.But instead of undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event on Nov. 29, the AP reported.According to the AP, a judge ruled that Mack and Ramgeet pay a ,400 fine and provide 40 hours of community service. Ramgeet was also ordered to a two-month curfew, but prosecutors appealed, saying the punishment was lenient.On Dec. 15, a higher court ruled in favor of the prosecutors, and the couple was immediately imprisoned, the AP reported.Mack's grandmother told the AP that she emailed President Donald Trump and received a response saying the White House would look into it. 1309

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Protesters dressed in salon gear took to the street outside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco home Thursday.In video of the protest, some demonstrators are seen with curlers in their hair, plastic is draped over them and hair dryers hang from trees.The rally came two days after video of Pelosi getting her hair cut inside a California salon surfaced.California Governor Gavin Newsom lifted restrictions on hair salons serving customers indoors at the end of last month. However, the city of San Francisco still requires such services to only be provided outside.Pelosi says the salon told her it would be OK to come inside, because they are only accommodating one person at a time.She also claims the whole thing was a set-up, since the video was released to the media by the salon's owner, KGO reports.
