We're all familiar by now with the student walkouts in solidarity against gun violence. It's one way they've united in one voice to try to make a difference.  But some students are using art, and billboards, to send a message of their own.           For Yoki Ogbai, the overalls she's painting are more than a school project"Our colors are red and white," Ogbai said. "So a lot of wings a lot of bows glitter all types of crazy.The overalls are her latest work of art."Art for me is like a big sense of release," Ogbai said.Born in East Africa, she used art as expression when she moved to the U.S and a way for people to see her for who she is."A lot of times people don't really try to understand and don't really try to get to know a person before creating their onw ways," Ogbai said.  "Their own idea of who you are."So when she heard about a contest called the "Healing As One" campaign, she figured it would be an opportunity to inspire thousands to take a look at things in a different way."Cause he's kind of taking a picture and was like through the lens," Ogbai said.That idea grew into a billboard on a busy intersection that reads, "See Me, I Am Denver.""To be seen is to be acknowledged for everything you are and not for what you're expected to be," Ogbai says.Ogbai's billboard is just one of several in the Healing As One initiative. The topics are timely. One reads education not deportation. And others, encourage people to have courage and hope.Albany Reynolds designed the hope billboard."For me it's amazing because I've always been someone who wanted to speak out about issues like that," Reynolds said.  "And just bring attention to that."She placed the word over a picture she took of her classmate Kelly."It's giving us leeway to have artistic freedom and to put our ideas out there," Reynolds said. "And to say I want to represent hope and to have that on an actual billboard it's a good opportunity."In a time with young people across the country speaking out about the issues important to them, this group believes doing that through art can be just as powerful."If you look at any big historical changes throughout history art has been a very big part of that," Reynolds said."Even though I am just another person using my voice and what I know what I can do I really am able to make some sort of impact in someone’s life," Ogbai said.Inspiring change through billboards, advertising messages of a different kind. 2526

We have increasingly been hearing about security and privacy problems with smart devices that are connected to the internet. All of these devices, from doorbells to thermostats, could one day have what's almost like a nutrition label on them.The label would tell you about the security and privacy features of the device.Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University came up with the design for what the label could look like.The researchers want to have the label on the packaging and the website. They expect there would still be impulse buys where you would disregard the label, but it would help in other situations.“When they're making a more considered purchase for their home or if they're giving it as a gift to some else or if it's something that's more sensitive, I’m not just buying a light bulb, but I'm buying something that's health-related or something that has a video camera attached to it and I want to know where that video data is going, then I expect people will pay attention,” said Lorrie Cranor, Director of CyLab.Cranor, one of researchers who has been working on this, says the biggest obstacle right now is getting companies to buy in.She says to really have widespread adoption, there needs to be regulation that requires it. A number of pieces of regulation in Congress have mentioned the idea of a label, but none of them have advanced.She says having marketplaces require it would help as well.“You want your item to be sold in Best Buy or on Amazon or whatever, you have to have this label or we're going to feature the products that have this label,” said Cranor.This proposed label is for when you're buying a smart device, but there's already a recently created tool to find out about the smart cameras or location trackers you didn't buy that you may encounter around the city.The IoT Assistant app will notify you how your data is being collected by those devices. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tuesday is the last day for small businesses to apply for a loan through the Paycheck Protection Program.About 4.8 million businesses received a PPP loan, with a total of 9 billion lent out. But as of Tuesday, there's still more than 0 billion left in the pot.As to why that is, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council says there's a few reasons, like concerns over how much would actually be forgiven, constantly changing rules, and strict limits to how the money can be used.“Not all businesses are the same. So, you know you've got businesses with high overhead, maybe few on payroll,” said Karen Kerrigan, President and CEO of the SBE Council. “This program really didn't align with their needs.”Business owners and advocacy groups complain that the money in the PPP was not fully put to work because it created obstacles that stopped countless small businesses from applying.A report from a research group says the program’s shortcomings also made it more difficult for minority businesses to get loans.The owners of a Colorado brewery who got a PPP loan say it helped, but only goes so far."It didn't solve the problems. What it did was sustain us for a few more months."The SBE Council is working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for further policy solutions. They're pushing to broaden what expenses can be forgiven, especially when it comes to technology.Through a survey, the group found 87% of small businesses said they wouldn't have been able to survive without cloud-based services.“We know that consumers are on social media and technology platforms looking for new businesses, looking for new brands, looking for new things that they need, and that's where small businesses can really fill that gap,” said Kerrigan.The Small Business Administration says it will be up to Congress to decide what to do with leftover funds from the PPP. 1900
