SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego family of a Los Angeles firefighter who may have been kidnapped in Rosarito, Mexico, is speaking out.It’s been more than two weeks since 20-year veteran LA City firefighter Frank Aguilar was last seen after heading to his second home in Baja, California.“We’re hopeful. We haven't lost hope,” his local cousin Nancy told ABC10 News. She’s only providing a first name, due to safety concerns. “Nobody seems to know anything and it's very frustrating for the family to not know anything."On Wednesday, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that his office learned from Mexican authorities that the 48-year-old firefighter may have been violently kidnapped from his Baja condo. “We will work tirelessly to make sure that Frank is returned safely,” he said in a news conference."[The mayor] did mention that he is going to provide all resources from Los Angeles to help get my dad back,” said daughter Amaris Aguilar.“I had just spoken to my dad the morning that we discovered he was missing. When he left for Rosarito, he was describing how safe or how good he felt in that community. He wanted to retire there,” added daughter Bella Aguilar.The daughters say that his condo was in a guard-gated community.His family has told reporters that his phone is off and they've heard that his condo may have been ransacked, his vehicles are missing and Ring video shows a troubling scene.“We're going to get you back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of people enjoyed San Diego County beaches, despite the ongoing Beach Hazard Warnings.The National Weather Service announced there would be high surf, high tides, and strong rip currents on the San Diego County coastline. This Beach Hazard Warning continues until Sunday. Whether you're playing, laying, or even working on this July 4th holiday, spending time at Mission Beach was a dream come true. Especially if you were the Newman family, escaping the Phoenix heat. "When we left, I think it was 114 degrees," Bryant Newman said. They said it just doesn't compare. "We used to hang out a lot at the resorts there locally [in Phoenix], but we have been coming to California for Fourth of July for the last for five or six years," Newman said.But let's not forget about the Beach Hazard Warnings, still in effect until Sunday. "They did warn us about high surf before I left the hotel this morning," visitor from LA, Saira Kinuthia said. Kinuthia is not letting her two boys out of sight. She said while they are here for fun, safety comes first. "We had our talk, and if the lifeguard says that we need to come out of the water, then we have to come out of the water," Kinuthia said. Also keeping a close eye, there was a large police presence along the beaches and boardwalk. While most of the patrols were for alcohol, officers were also regulating the new e-scooter rules that took place on July 1st. Riders must slow down to 8 miles per hour on the boardwalk. But 10News saw many people zooming by. One was an accident between a double-rider and an elderly gentleman, walking on the boardwalk. All parties were okay. San Diego Police said they are giving many verbal warnings and a few citations for what they consider egregious e-scooter violations. Whether it's on the scooter or in the ocean, please remember. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This Veterans Day, an online service is offering a deal to help veterans preserve their memories for future generations.Story Terrace is giving vets a discount so that they can write books based on their lives and experiences. The company is calling it the "Speak and Listen" campaign."My grandfather was in the resistance in the Netherlands (in WWII), and I regret not recording his stories," says Story Terrace CEO Rutger Bruining. "That's why I think it's really important for the entire family that these stories are kept and retold, so people remember what happens."The service pairs people up with ghostwriters who spend hours interviewing the subject and then write a book for them. It costs between ,900 and ,450 depending on how long and detailed you want the book to be, and how many pictures you want to include."Ultimately, the content is up to the customer, to change and have it the way they want," says Bruining.Retired Navy Pilot Frank Miley wrote his life story on his own before he knew about Story Terrace. He says putting it in writing was emotional, but also crucial, so his family knows what he went through during the Vietnam War."I didn't do it for glory," Miley says. "I just wanted to let them know that I did my job to keep them safe."Jim Reily, who runs the docent program on the USS Midway, says that first-hand interaction is the best way for people to hear about veterans' contributions to the country."It's gratifying to talk to a bunch of folks who have never been on a ship and explain what happens and see the awe and wonder in their eyes," Reily says. "Our freedom isn't free. It takes sacrifice, and it takes the good efforts of the several hundred thousand folks that are in the service right now to protect our freedoms."Bruining says it's especially important to get these stories preserved now, as generations of veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are passing away."The understand of what happened and the lessons we have to learn from history about the things that went wrong, but also the heroic tales of humankind, they will slowly get lost," he says.
