CINCINNATI -- Family members and friends said their final goodbyes to 16-year-old Kyle Plush at his funeral Monday.The teen died trapped inside his van at Seven Hills School last Tuesday, even after he pleaded with 911 operators to send help. Two Cincinnati police officers and a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy who searched near the school never found him. A Cincinnati City Council committee has a special meeting Tuesday afternoon to look into what happened.After Plush's death, the Cincinnati Police Department released a?computer-aided dispatch report,?Plush's calls and some dispatch traffic. It later released an internal review of the incident?after it was leaked to multiple news outlets.But the department has yet to explain exactly where its officers looked and what they did during their search for Plush. Nearly a week after the teen suffocated, numerous questions remain about what went wrong that day.The first 911 operatorStephane MaGee took the first 911 call from Plush. She couldn't communicate back and forth with him, because he said he could not hear her.MaGee indicated the caller was a female trapped in a van at the Seven Hills parking lot in "unknown trouble."Using latitude/longitude coordinates, she found Plush may be across the street from the school. She noted that location may be a thrift store parking lot in the dispatch report. Officers were dispatched to 5471 Red Bank Road, which is the parking lot across from the school where Plush was suffocating inside his Honda Odyssey. MaGee noted she used "Phase II" to find the location; "Phase II" is shorthand for a requirement, from the Federal Communications Commission, that wireless providers have to give 911 centers the latitude/longitude coordinates of cellphone calls.The latitude/longitude coordinates MaGee obtained were within feet of where Plush would be found dead later that night. Even though MaGee had almost the exact location of where Plush was found, a supervisor later wrote she should've used the school's name -- which would've sent officers to a less-exact location, at 5400 Red Bank.The officersRecords show Cincinnati Police Officers Edsel Osborn and Brian Brazile, riding double as Unit 2232, responded to the school to investigate Plush's first call. It's unclear if they ever came back on the radio to ask for clarification about the caller or vehicle.The officers noted they tried calling Plush back but didn't get an answer. Less than 11 minutes after arriving, they marked the assignment complete and were ready for a different assignment.Later that night, when Plush was found dead, another call went out for police to respond to Seven Hills School. Officers didn't yet know Plush was dead. Brazile and Osborn's unit, 2232, came on the radio to say they'd been there earlier in the day and found nothing."I think somebody's playing pranks. It was something about they were locked in a vehicle across from the school, we never found anything. But we'll respond and see what else we can find," one of them said in the radio transmission that night.That's what we know about the two Cincinnati police officers' actions. WCPO has requested numerous records, which have not yet been provided.Chief Eliot Isaac has not gone into detail about what the officers did at the school that afternoon. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Experts at the Living Coast Discovery Center are keeping a close watch on their animals after a student jumped into a shark enclosure on Tuesday. The video featured a Montgomery High School student climbing on rocks before jumping in the enclosure and swimming a lap. LCDC officials believe the student took part in the stunt on a dare. The boy was not in any danger from the sharks, which were primarily sharks that don't like to be spooked, experts said. "They don't like to be scared by all those quick motions and loud noises," said Elizabeth Argyle, the director of education and guest experience for the center. "You don't know the consequences that you're going to create, and for the animals, they get spooked by it." None of the animals were harmed. The center's care staff said their animals are doing well and a veterinarian performs check-ups weekly. The student’s actions took place weeks before the center is set to open a new display. The exhibit, called the "Sea of Change" will be about co-existing with and respecting animals, focusing on how humans can live with them harmoniously, said Argyle. "We're very deeply disappointed in the actions that some of these students chose to do," Argyle added. She hopes this incident will serve as a teachable moment for others. The Sweetwater Union High School District said the teen’s behavior was inappropriate. School officials are working with LCDC to prevent similar incidents from happening again and create an opportunity for appropriate restitution for the student. 1568

(KGTV) – The Chula Vista Elementary School District’s administration team held a virtual meeting Friday morning that provided families with details on the district’s potential reopening plan.District officials said their plan is to ease students back in and give families the option to continue to learn virtually, on campus, or through a hybrid program.The first four weeks of the 2020-21 school year, scheduled to begin Aug. 31, will be online. After that period of distance learning, the district will assess the situation; allowing for a possible return to in-class instruction will depend on the level of active coronavirus cases in San Diego County.Superintendent Dr. Francisco Escobedo said a lot of prep work and planning has gone into the district's plan to reopen.During Friday’s meeting, he said, “We want our children to come back because we want in-person instruction. We believe it’s the best type of instruction there is, but we need to come back in a safe manner.”When students do make their return to school, campuses will look very different. The district spent millions of dollars on safety measures, including large sensors that take temperature and dispense sanitizer, large signs, personal protective equipment, and plexiglass dividers."We’ll have signage throughout the school depicting the type of behaviors we expect,” Escobedo added.According to Escobedo, the district has partnered with local company Kahala Bioscience to help conduct routine COVID-19 testing and identify ways to mitigate the spread of the virus.Escobedo said students will return when the county is at a low to medium risk for COVID-19, and when they do, only half of the students will be allowed back on campus with priority for those in K-3 grades.While digital learning is in place for the first few weeks of the school year, campuses will be used for child care through the YMCA, so teachers can utilize that service while in class.In preparation for digital learning, the district is still offering laptops to those who need them. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Firefighters worked Friday to extinguish a brush fire that sparked in the Otay Ranch area of Chula Vista.Officials said the fire started sometime around 12 p.m. near Heritage Rd. and Olympic Parkway, according to Chula Vista Fire Department. The fire began not far from the Republic Services Otay Landfill.Firefighters said the forward rate of the fire had been stopped at 10 acres just before 2:30 p.m. No structures were lost and no injuries were reported.Neighbors came out to watch firefighters work and monitor the blaze.Some were concerned, thinking of past fires that charred neighborhoods, while others like Jessica Rojas had faith in the firefighters, "we've been hearing like a lot of firetrucks and so we figured they were doing a good job of putting out the fires."In addition to CVPD crews on the ground, SDG&E's Sky Maverick helicopter was called to help battle the flames from above with water drops.Chula Vista Fire Captain Linda D'Orsi said this is a great reminder of the importance of defensible space, saying it's not too late in the year to do that yard work. CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fire officials say a brush fire that destroyed a two-story mansion in Chino Hills Monday may have been sparked by a bird, according to KABC. According to Chino Valley Fire, the blaze was caused by a large bird striking high-voltage power lines. The department says the bird then caught fire and fell to the ground, igniting the grass. The tweet went on to say that fire officials and SoCal Edison representatives inspected the power pole and found that there was no transformer installed on the pole as initially reported. No evacuations were ordered and no injuries reported. The blaze started near Chino Hills Parkway and Falling Star Lane just before 2 p.m., KABC reports. 715
