SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Legion Major League Rugby team announced Tuesday that it released recently signed player Steffon Armitage in the wake of his conviction for sexually assaulting a woman in France.On Monday, a French court found Armitage guilty of groping a woman's breasts outside a bar last year in the town of Pau, where he was playing at the time of the assault. Armitage, 34, admitted he had also been drinking heavily that night.The court handed Armitage a suspended prison sentence and ordered him to compensate the victim with 5,000 euros, roughly ,500 in U.S. dollars.The Legion signed Armitage in July. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and North County Transit District will host the region's third "Free Ride Day" Tuesday, making all fixed-route bus and rail services free for everyone to use throughout San Diego County, ensuring residents are able to reach their polling place and exercise their right to vote."Free Ride Day this year has a different purpose than in past years," said Nathan Fletcher, MTS Board Chair and San Diego County Supervisor. "We are holding it on one of the most important days for our country -- Election Day. We want San Diego residents to have every opportunity to participate in our democracy. Free transit rides all day long will help do just that."Free rides will be honored on all MTS and NCTD fixed-routes services including buses, the trolley, Sprinter and Coaster. From Sept. 20 to Sept. 26, 18 community outbreaks were confirmed. The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.The county reported 8,550 tests as of Saturday and the percentage of new laboratory-confirmed cases was 3%.The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 3.3%. The target is less than 8%. The seven-day daily average of tests was 8,483.San Diego State University reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 1,072 since Aug. 24, the first day of instruction for the fall semester.The new totals reported by Student Health Services reflect numbers as of 6 p.m. Saturday.Of the students living on campus, 385 have tested positive and students living off campus totaled 666 positive cases, health services said. A total of eight faculty or staff members have tested positive and 13 "visitors," people who have had exposure with an SDSU-affiliated individual, have tested positive.The number of confirmed cases was 1,030, with 42 probable cases.The information is based on cases reported to Student Health Services by an individual or by a public health official. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- San Diego lifeguards and firefighters Sunday rescued a surfer who suffered a medical emergency while in the water in the Bird Rock area, authorities said.At 12:36 p.m., lifeguards and firefighters from the San Diego Fire- Rescue Department responded to the cliffs near Calumet Park about a surfer experiencing an unknown medical emergency, Lt. Andy Lerum of Lifeguard Services said.The man in his 60s experienced a possible heart-related ailment or seizure, but rescuers were not sure of the exact nature of his medical emergency, Lerum said.The man swam to the beach, where he collapsed and lifeguards began tending to him, the lieutenant said. He was taken by stretcher about 30 yards to the bottom of the cliff.Firefighters used the department's Rescue 44 truck, equipped with a crane, to lift the surfer from the beach to the top of the cliff, Lerum said. An ambulance then took the man to a La Jolla hospital for evaluation. He was reportedly in stable condition. 995
